Warning: Spoilers
Even though I loved Charles, I was not against the possibility of Liza ending up with Josh, which apparently is what happened in the end. However, if you are going to go with that ending, do a better job! We hadn't seen Josh much during this season and then we get to see him in the very end for not even 4 minutes, quoting the lines from the series pilot. Romantic, sure, but not even some original dialogue! Writers should have done Josh's character some better justice. It felt rushed and out of nowhere. Its a shame because the two actors' chemistry is great, we could have had a much more satisfying and meaningful interaction between them.

Horrible Finale
sethompson-8077513 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You would think that with all they've been through, Charles and Liza would have tried harder to make it as a couple. The beginning of the episode makes you think it will happen, then does a 180! I liked it throughout the series. I was addicted and binge watched in two weeks. Every episode was excellent and made sense except the last one. I'm very disappointed.

Almost all characters were ruined
hamedazad8 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
To tell the truth I was never a fan of desperate housewife genre. It is not my type of show, and somehow I was drawn to this show as I watched it and invested in some of the characters. However, I found myself unsatisfied with how they ended most of the characters except for Kelsey.

Let me start with the leads. We have been entertaining the idea of Liza and Charles together for quite some time now, and Josh seemed to have accepted to be Liza's friend. The entire season we have seen that Josh was settled as a daddy and a good friend. So the possibility of Liza and Josh at the last minute was forced. On the contrary, Charles was fully aware of Liza's proficiency in lying and seemed okay with it. He also dumped a billionaire who clearly declared her love for him to be with the woman he loved. Then after one innocent secret (which Liza was honestly unaware of) and a secret submission of unfinished manuscript, they suddenly ended things. Why bother making the scene with Liza meeting Charles's daughter when it was supposed to end soon?

As for other characters, Maggie falling in love with the woman who practically ruined her life seemed out of her independent character. Lauren getting in a threesome with two gay men was not aligned with her homosexual character.

Another issue is for Kelsey. I was happy with how her character ended, but that was also very puzzling. I mean first she was furious about the idea of Charles stealing their innovation but suddenly presented it to not only Charles but to the world? And then, right after she found good investors, she blew the whole thing because she could not accept the 20 percent commission? Even more exciting is when you think that she decided to keep the INKubator in Empirical, but she suddenly decides to leave it in the open and hunt for investors. Though the final conclusion of her moving west coast was satisfying, the process was not.

All in all, I liked the show. I was kind of leaning towards Josh and Liza, but it seemed unlikely during the entire last season and the twist towards it was really inorganic. I also enjoyed the Lizalot musical because while it was harsh, it was the truth. She should have accepted that she was a con.

WHY
smt_21611 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just... why?! It's not even the end result that I'm super upset with, but rather that it came out of nowhere! The Liza/Quinn/Charles drama was such a huge focus this season and Josh's character always felt like an afterthought. Even though I've been "Team Charles" ever since he and Liza got together, I still would've happily accepted her deciding to be with Josh if the storyline led there. That's not what happened though! In this rushed mess of a finale, Liza and Charles decided to call it quits over something so trivial only to bring Josh back in for the last five minutes and force a reunion. Throwing a curveball in the SERIES finale is not good storytelling. Such a disappointment after so many amazing moments in this show. :(

Deserved a much better ending
viivischroderus14 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know, this whole season wasn't so good. Everything felt either a little boring or forced. I think twelve episodes wasn't enough to wrap this serie up so they just started rushing things up together and it ended up being a complete mess with a little to a none to do how the serie once started.

I also missed Diana so much. She was the boss lady in this show with a big B. I don't know why she was left out. Also Josh needed so much more screen time 'cause now it doesn't make any sense that he suddenly jumped back into Liza's love life in the last five minutes of the season and the whole show. After all he and Liza didn't have anything romantic going on in this season even though they first started dating back then in season 1. I don't know, was this some kind of "circle closed" effect or what? I always liked them together and I couldn't choose between him and Charles but the ending just seemed so random.

Honestly, I didn't understand who did Liza end up with after finishing the episode. I regonized Liza and Charles talking in bed "how they will not be able to make it" but I seriously didn't understand were they talking about business or love life. Had to check this reviews out to understand the concept. And I didn't understand why they were not able to be together? He just left Quinn and things had started to get better and then suddenly out of nowhere they just broke up? What on earth was that?

Empirical was just left to hang in there with Liza in charge and Charles being away for a while. Is Diana still in that honey moon? Kelsey and INKUbator is a great idea but I hoped she had stayed in New York. Lauren's ending was really random but it was also very "Lauren" so I'll just leave this here. I liked Maggie and Cass together so that was okay.

I've propably said "I don't know" a million times in this review but thats just how I feel with many things. I feel so confused that it ended up this way. I'm sad and very disappointed. And I really expected much more from Younger! I really would have liked to see more seasons and that's what this serie so badly needed. This could be an ending just for one season, not a finale one. But it is what it is, I hope Liza will change his mind with Charles or start a happy life with Josh.

Took us long enough to get there
znvisser6 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show landed exactly where it should have, and those who don't see that haven't been paying attention. However, I certainly agree that something was off. The thing is: the last few seasons leading up to this moment were the problem, not necessarily the finale itself.

When Liza and Josh separated, it was because the timing wasn't right. And in the middle of all the age-drama, it made sense that Liza and Charles had some mutual attraction that needed exploring. But the closer they came together, the more it was unclear what really connected them. Through Paulines editing journey, we understood that Charles has a side to himself that was not the stiff, polite publisher we were used to seeing. But the thing is: we never saw some other side than that when he was with Liza. And although they looked cozy together, there were many signs that they didn't actually match well, Liza's doubts - more than once - of sliding back into her former life. Even more clear was the season 5 finale: they could finally be together and then there was a 'Graduate' ending. And there were several hints throughout their relationship that Charles still had trouble trusting Liza.

Meanwhile, Josh was the person that Liza was always herself with. While Liza was living her messy love life, he was growing up and doing things he wouldn't have been able to do if he were still with her. Meanwhile he remained a problem in Liza's relationship with Charles; to such an extent that she wanted to break off their contact altogether. It would have been a complete waste if the series hadn't revisited that.

And while I have some personal preferences that I have seen unfulfilled (Zane getting over himself and being with Kelsey, Maggie just staying the powerful single she has been throughout the series, Quin actually changing instead of being a villain), the ending at the bar was the only way Liza's (and Josh's) story could and should have concluded.

So in my opinion, that ending reflects good, subtle writing. It's just a shame we had to watch through several seasons of uninteresting Charles-drama and way too little Josh-time to get there in such a rush.

Torn
derrickharp15 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So I actually don't like the finale because I hate to see Charles and Liza officially break-up. However, I think that the showing ending in the way that it does really speaks to what the show was all about all along. It's never too late to start over. And that's essentially what Liza did, again. But this time she can truthfully start over. Sad to see that Josh kind of got side-lined and was practically an afterthought all season but he was kind of the one who showed Liza how to get her groove back. Glad to see they were able to remain friends after everything they went through.... I think the ending will grow on me as time passes but it's a fitting end to the story that was being told, just not fairy tale romantic ending that we all wanted for Liza. 💜

Terrible terrible finale
bshazz10 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The ending makes zero sense and it sucks they had to character assassinate Charles to bring about the forced ending. It's weird that suddenly Charles has so many issues with Liza. Zero sense and totally out of character. I'm gonna pretend the previous ep was the series finale.

What a perfect satisfying ending!
michaela_endomela13 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't think Liza should get together with Charles- she was always tense around him and he was too stiff and serious.

The moment at the end when Josh appears made it all worth while!

She was always smiling when he was around, he truly made her happy and he was her friend all along, above all things.

Also, I love the idea she becomes the Editor and Chief of the company. She deserves it!

And Kelsey starting her own company (sort of) is so on point.

All and all, that was a solid rap up for this lovely show I enjoyed watching for a few years now... Thank you!

Did they not know how to end this series?
melindar-3243815 June 2021
I've been so impressed by the story line thus far until the last episode. I feel like there should have been 2-3 more episodes and they just made a hodge podge of this last one to throw it all together as an ending and not care about the ratings or quality of the episode.

GoT and Himym have nothing on this mess
mia5846710 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show and cannot believe how wrong it went. Charles saying he wants to be with Liza in any way, then he gets an email from evil Quinn and he's doubting her again? Without talking? What about the whole true love wins speech from Pauline? Involving a reunion with his kid and then pulling that at the end. They love each other, no way they would break up over this after all they went through. It isn't believable even for this show! Then entertaining the possibility that she and Josh are together in the future, and he's a rich property owner. This was complete fanservice and nothing more. Don't build a story for an entire season to do a bait and switch. So insulting to fans. I can't even watch old ones now bc of this terrible finale. Ruined the best story on tv.

It ended where it started ...
toncincin17 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Loved it! Kelsey got what she wanted - success on her own. Charles moves on to do something he loves. Maggie finally finds love. Liza starts again with a job she wants and loves.

The ending lets the viewer decide - Josh loves her ... he always has. We decide whether she stays with him. I think it was a strike of genius to leave them together at the place where it all started.

For me - I like this type of ending. It's not all balled up in a happy ending - with all questions answered ... it leaves it open to the viewers interpretation and imagination.

I am sorry to see it end though - it was such a fresh idea.

what just happened?
reneeinthebox10 June 2021
I watched this episode without knowing it was the series finale. So with that being said it was confusing how they switched gears mid episode. It seems as though they tried to tie up each character's story with a bow but they did a disservice to Charles & Liza. I'm just going to pretend the penultimate episode was the finale.

Terribly unsatisfying ending to a wonderful show
mwilloughby-5628111 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
All of season 7 has been a will they/won't they about Liza and Charles - and only Liza and Charles! Their split midway through didn't feel organic and I'm not even entirely sure I understand why it needed to happen but fine - Charles has had issues in the past (controlling, selfish, stubborn). They didn't HAVE to end up together. But Josh has been MIA for the entire season. If this was the plan why not bring him back and have him interact with Liza to sow some seeds? So out of left field, so unsatisfying.

Did they know they were being cancelled?
Swan-nyc10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The finale episode is written as though they didn't know they were being canceled, but then they had a sneaky suspicion, and tried in the 11th hour to cram a new storyline into the series.

Liza belonged with Josh, so I am glad that's how it ended. Ending with a similar meet cute as the pilot episode was, well, cute. But! We not only needed more Liza and josh on screen relationship storylines, we deserved this.

Instead, what we got was so much Charles and Liza relationship drama that I was settled, for a minute, in the idea of them ending up together.

Also, PSA: this is not how one seeks investors. Do not create a PDF containing your idea and mass email it to VC's. In real life, Kelsey's app would have been stolen. Also, referrals for investor connections, last I checked, cannot he 20%. This misinformation greatly perturbed me.

I'm going to hold out some hope for a spin off, or a continual of the series - because - we need to see Liza and josh working out their relationship and her integrating with his ex and his baby. Sloppy, rushed ending.

Still, the worst series finale award goes to Seinfeld, so, bravo, "younger" writers, there's still a level of awful to aspire to.

Good, but confusing in a way.

It was a good finale I feel like. Seeing multiple characters become successful, etc. It confused me when Charles said that he doesn't think they (him and Liza) will make it. That could have been for shock value.

Hmmmm unsure how I feel
smg-0639711 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I felt this season was a struggle to watch - I had to force myself To get through it. The last episode came up super fast - and of course tying up all the characters story lines. It all just felt rushed and unrealistic.

Throughout the whole Show ppl are asking team josh or team Charles?

I was hoping the series final would have her with one person, but no, it's left open ended in an unrealistic way. Josh was barely in this season then to have him standing next to her as the credits roll?

The first 5 seasons I found enjoyable and fun - the last 2 not so much.

I'm glad I watched the show but don't think it's a show I'll ever rewatch.

Amazing.. Validates everything.
call_dip15 August 2021
I loved how a single line liza tells charles on bed summarizes their both characters, events that lead to that moment and afterwards. It validates everything.

Just loved the writer, the writer doesn't compromise, for the same of viewers desire of fairytale, on any level. They stick to the practicality of individual nature, how they will act in life.

Its indeed a fairytale, but not the way you would want it to be. I just loved it.

Felt rushed but also totally right.
hillberg8221 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have been hoping for Liza to end up with Josh for a long time now. They felt more at ease with each other and more happy together.

I agree with other reviews that the final episode felt rushed and really re-written, I would've wanted to see more of Josh and Liza during the season for a more believable build-up. But ending up with Josh feels true to the show and the person Liza became throughout the show.

(I also greatly missed Diana during this final season, she and Maggie were my favorite characters)

What. Was. That???
LizalotMiller11 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This finale was straight up bizarre. Liza's lie has not been an issue the entire time she and Charles have been together yet it's suddenly an issue at the 11th hour??

Ending the series the way it started felt like high school 101 creative writing and I would have no issue with Liza looping back to Josh if it made ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER in relation to the rest of the season. Like, what was the actual point of the entire last season? I cannot see how this ending could be satisfying for anyone-if you liked Charles he got shafted, Josh is the second place after thought and Liza, the protagonist, ended up being some kind of example of what happens if you lie.

Just give me a definitive happy ending please, if I want the drama I will watch the drama. I come to Younger for light, feel-good happiness.

Many phases of Younger
ejatbeauty11 June 2021
This series was easy to love. Literature, art, big personalities.... I'm absolutely sad to see it end. "Younger" helped me fall in love with books again. I wouldn't be mad at all if a new series starts where this one leaves off. *not so subtle hint*

Warning: Spoilers
Younger is an interesting series. Only a handful of episodes were truly great, some were really bad, but it is a show that we'll remember, that produced some easy laughs and took an over the top premise of a 40 year old pretending to be 26 and ran with it.

This was definitely not a perfect finale, but it served its purpose. It let you wonder if Liza and Josh got together, it gave a lot of the characters a happy ending and it even opened the door to revisit it, or one of them in the future.

It felt very much like a finale. Maybe not Newhart quality, but they can't all be that. A fitting conclusion to Younger and a fitting wrap up to an uneven seventh and final season.
