The episodes are named after songs by David Bowie, who played the lead role in the original film The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976).
Episode 4 contains lyrics from David Bowie's "Space Oddity" in an exchange between Newton and Farraday: Newton: Tell my wife I love her very much. Farraday: She knows.
As well as being named after English scientists, the alien characters are played by English people. In fact, three of the main protagonists Naomi's Harris, Bill Nighy and the lead Chiwetel Ejiofor, all were born less than 40 miles apart in and around London, England.
The adopted last names of the two aliens, Newton and Faraday, also belonged to two Englishmen well known for their contributions to science, Isaac Newton and Michael Faraday.
The only location in Alaska the forest depicted could exist is within 100 miles of the border with British Columbia. Trees cannot grow taller north of that latitude.
