- Harry Greenwood: I don't understand. My subconscious is SafeSpace Seattle?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It takes on the physicality of wherever I performed the meld. So, welcome... visionary. Somewhere in here, smothered under layers of teapot cozies and mushy peas, is your connection to the Darklighter. If you can access him, his thoughts, well, that might lead us to where...
- Harry Greenwood: Where he took Macy.
- [hearing music]
- Harry Greenwood: I know that song.
- [investigating, they come upon a little boy celebrating his birthday]
- Matronly Woman: Happy birthday, James.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: James?
- Harry Greenwood: Yes. That's... me. My human name was James Westwell. Before I became a Whitelighter. And that's... my grandmother. Her name was... Willa.
- Matronly Woman: You've gotten so big.
- Harry Greenwood: Yes. Yes, it was Willa. I'm sure of it.
- Matronly Woman: Now, take a deep breath and make a wish.
- Harry Greenwood: This is a memory.
- [as little James blows out the candles, the vision ends]
- Harry Greenwood: No, no. No, no, wait.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Don't get lost in the morass, Harry.
- Maggie Vera: No red dots anywhere.
- Harry Greenwood: While you were in Clay City, I went and checked on the last two. One in Jacksonville, the other in Provo. Witches in trouble, yes, but no Macy.
- Maggie Vera: What was that demon even doing with her in a barrel?
- Harry Greenwood: Marinating her, most likely. A small sect of Malignants have gone... well, a tad cannibalistic. Once they get a taste for witches, their appetite is insatiable. Good news is you saved that woman before she became lunch.
- Maggie Vera: Yeah, and the bad news is no Macy anywhere.
- Mel Vera: How is this possible? Could the Darklighter have cloaked her?
- Maggie Vera: Or worse?
- Mel Vera: Don't go there, Mags.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Perhaps it's time you do. "Dead" is the word you're so assiduously avoiding.
- Mel Vera: Macy is not dead.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Are you sure of that? The other Harry has had for, what, 36 hours? That's plenty of time to...
- Maggie Vera: I swear, if you don't stop talking now, we will...
- [drawing her finger across her throat]
- Maggie Vera: ...you.
- Harry Greenwood: What are you doing?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Remember, my demon magic doesn't work in your precious command center. Now, before we do this, I have some legal liability forms I'll need you to sign. That was a joke. Look, what I am about to do is dead serious. I have a special skill that demons in my family line possess. You will experience joy and pleasure, but you may also experience pain and suffering. And it will feel as real as it did when it actually happened. Are you prepared for some pain and pleasure, Harry?
- Harry Greenwood: Yes. Just do it.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Gladly.
- Mel Vera: I'm telling you, we need to try Absum Veri, which I'm pretty sure I still remember.
- Maggie Vera: Absum Veri? What is that?
- Harry Greenwood: A tracking spell. Very powerful and also banned. How do you even know about it?
- Mel Vera: Well, I spent some time studying the list in the back of the Book of Shadows.
- Harry Greenwood: Those spells are banned for a reason. The last witch to try Absum Veri was found not alive.
- Harry Greenwood: I'll scour the Book of Elders for information about the Darklighter, any clues as to where he might have taken Macy.
- Mel Vera: And we'll take our chances on Absum Veri.
- Harry Greenwood: Mel.
- Mel Vera: Macy is missing, Harry. Banned or not, this is our best shot.
- Maggie Vera: Sorry, Harry. I agree with Mel on this one.
- Maggie Vera: [after a brief conversation with Katrina] Okay, what was that? I thought you said she didn't remember anything from the astral plane.
- Mel Vera: She wasn't supposed to.
- Maggie Vera: Well, what happened there?
- Mel Vera: Can we please just stick on task here?
- Harry Greenwood: My father. Cavendish tobacco.
- [inhaling the aroma]
- Harry Greenwood: Sweet.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [sarcastic] Riveting. Moving on.
- Mel Vera: If this goes wrong...
- Maggie Vera: It's not going wrong. We got this.
- Mel Vera, Maggie Vera: Ancient spirits, Macy Vaughn, our dear eldest sister has up and gone. We must retrieve her, heed our call. Track down our sister before night's fall. Qui abest reperietur.
- Maggie Vera: [after a few moments] Nothing's happening.
- [seeing a vision of a growling black dog]
- Maggie Vera: Okay, so this is why we don't try banned spells.
- Young Woman (Clara): James? Is that you? Where have you been?
- Harry Greenwood: I don't know.
- Young Woman (Clara): [slapping him] You bastard! How could you do this to me? To your son?
- Harry Greenwood: What did I do?
- Young Woman (Clara): I gave up on you being faithful to me a long time ago. But another family.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Another family. You are a scoundrel, aren't you?
- Young Woman (Clara): Do you know how many nights Carter falls asleep in my arms, asking where you are and if you're coming back? You're insatiable and greedy.
- Harry Greenwood: Clara, forgive me. Please.
- Young Woman (Clara): It's too late, James. I'm sorry.
- Harry Greenwood: [as the vision disappears] Please.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, I guess now we know where the "dark" in your Darklighter came from.
- Harry Greenwood: How could I have done those things? Perhaps the memories weren't real. Maybe the Elders planted them.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: We're in a demon mind meld. I'm afraid those memories are real. But they're over.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, you've done this, luring me into the darkness. What was the point of all that?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, the point... is to find Macy and end the threat that hunts us all, that assassin. I warned you it would be painful. Look, the dark version of you killed two of my favorite playthings with a flick of his wrist. Now he has Macy, and something in your brain might hold the key to finding him.
- [hearing a woman scream, they go to investigate and come upon a wooden door]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Sounds like we're in the right place.
- Maggie Vera: Perky Peanut? Half-sister demon's really starting to piss me off.
- Mel Vera: Still looking for a "shut your piehole" potion for her.
- Harry Greenwood: What the hell?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Not hell. But close.
- Harry Greenwood: Where are we?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: We're in a demon mind meld. Welcome to your subconscious, Harry. Let the games begin.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Tantric sex takes less time than whatever it is you're doing.
- Harry Greenwood: This is supposed to help me translate. Every time I pass over the text dealing with Whitelighters, it disappears.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Guess the Elders didn't want Whitelighters to see it and learn the truth about their naughty Darklighter selves. Forget the Book. Perhaps the truth is lying somewhere else entirely.
- Harry Greenwood: Stop playing games. If you know something, speak up. Macy's in danger.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I don't *know* anything. But I'm guessing if you share the same origin, it's conceivable you share a psychic connection of sorts where you know what he knows... and vice versa.
- Harry Greenwood: Well, even if you were right, how to access that connection?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Start at the beginning, where you and he were created.
- Harry Greenwood: I'm trying. The Elders wiped my memory.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [laughing in amusement] Oh, yes. And deleting porn cleans your hard drive. Please. What if I could help you access them? Your memories. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
- Harry Greenwood: How?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: You bust me out of here, and we'll talk.
- Harry Greenwood: Nice try.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Don't you see? We share a common enemy, Harry. He came after me, too. I want him dead as much as you do.
- Harry Greenwood: Stop talking. I'm trying to concentrate.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, the clock is ticking. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Hesitate long enough, and it might be too late.
- Mel Vera: Absum Veri requires us to say an incantation over three items belonging to the missing person. We need something that Macy dreads, something she denies herself, and something she desires. The dread should be specific to her and current.
- Maggie Vera: [spotting a bottle of tequila] She dreads being out of control.
- Mel Vera: Do it.
- Maggie Vera: [grabbing the bottle] Okay. Now what she denies herself.
- Mel Vera: Dairy? Remember the almond milk incident?
- Maggie Vera: Oh, yeah. She went ballistic when we ran out.
- [Mel grabs a quart of milk from the fridge]
- Maggie Vera: Okay. Now what she desires. It's obvious. Family.
- Mel Vera: Career.
- [seeing Maggie's look of bewilderment]
- Mel Vera: She wanted that job at the Bioethical Research Lab in Ann Arbor.
- Maggie Vera: No. I mean, yes, her ambition, but Macy's deepest desire was growing up with her mother.
- Mel Vera: She accepted that.
- Maggie Vera: People don't just accept loss overnight, Mel. Look, I'm sorry to pull rank here, but I'm the empath, and if anyone understands emotion, it's me.
- Malignant Demon: Damn witches blinded me.
- Mel Vera: We have an antidote. Tell us where Macy is, and we'll give it to you.
- Maggie Vera: We just want our sister back.
- [dropping her knife as the demon grabs her by the throat]
- Maggie Vera: There has to be... some kind of deal... we can make.
- Malignant Demon: What kind of deal?
- Maggie Vera: [as Mel stabs him, they watch him crumble to dust] Mel, no! What did... what... what did... what did you do that for? He was our last lead to Macy.
- Mel Vera: I saved your life.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: First kiss. Scandalous.
- Harry Greenwood: [seeing a black-cloaked figure pass by] Who's that?
- [following, they see it's disappeared]
- Harry Greenwood: There was a woman. She was right here.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Seems there are some things lurking out there you don't want to face, Harry. But if we're looking for psychic connections to the Darklighter, you're going to have to go deeper.
- Harry Greenwood: How, exactly?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Time to break down your walls. Considering it's you, it might take a sledgehammer. Come on. Let's go find out what's in the dark recesses of Harry.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Hey, Guantanamo guards. You can't keep me in this containment spell forever. Even demons have rights, and I have things I need to do.
- Maggie Vera: What kind of things?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: I'm not sure your imagination could handle them, Perky Peanut.
- Maggie Vera: What did you call me?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Perky Peanut. Pretty Pony. Priming, Prancing Princess. I can see why my loser brother was so taken with you.
- Maggie Vera: Parker is not a loser. He's decent and kind.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Exactly. He walked away from ruling the Primordials. He was too weak.
- Mel Vera: Ignore her, Mags.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Ooh. Angry Spice has spoken.
- Harry Greenwood: Enough. We need to focus. We're running out of time.
- Maggie Vera: You think she dealt with mom, but you're wrong about that part.
- Mel Vera: Or you're wrong about Macy. I should have trusted my instincts. Macy and I are in a different place in our life.
- Maggie Vera: What is that supposed to mean?
- Mel Vera: Meaning your obsession with guys has always trumped any career ambition.
- Maggie Vera: Oh, that's rich, coming from the Haunt's former Bartender of the Month. And Parker's not just some guy.
- Mel Vera: Yeah, he was a demon guy who tried to steal your powers.
- Maggie Vera: He said he was sorry. Stop being so judgy.
- Maggie Vera: Where's our sister?
- Malignant Demon: Don't know what you're talking about.
- Mel Vera: We know you've got a witch here.
- Maggie Vera: Are you working for him? The Darklighter? Just give her up, and there won't be any trouble.
- Malignant Demon: Want to ask me a question?
- [showing his clawed hand]
- Malignant Demon: Come a little closer.
- Mel Vera: We'll stay right here.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: So the assassin, the killing machine who slaughters witches and demons, who came after me and Macy is...
- Harry Greenwood: My other half. The Darklighter. I'm half a man. And someone or something let the other half out. The Darklighter... has a master.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Perhaps there's fingerprints.
- Harry Greenwood: No, no, wait.
- [the room begins to rumble]
- Harry Greenwood: Final line of their defense. The jars were never meant to leave this place.
- Harry Greenwood: I've been here before. That's... where I learned to heal. An Elder cut her hand. I can see her face now. She was so calm.
- [seeing dead bodies nearby]
- Harry Greenwood: Dear god. What happened?
- [another creature growls]
- Harry Greenwood: Oh. He's still alive.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Don't go near it.
- Harry Greenwood: What do you mean? It's... it's sick. We have to help.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [conjuring a fireball from a torch] Harry, don't!
- Harry Greenwood: [as she throws the fireball, the creature vanishes] Why the hell did you do that?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It would have killed you. These are Caliban. Hired assassins. Their hands are lethal. Anything they touch dies. You're welcome.
- Harry Greenwood: [looking closer at one of the dead ones] Well, they must have been placed here by the Elders to defend the castle.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: They have no mouths. That's one way to keep them silent.
- Harry Greenwood: How do you know so much about them?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: When I was 13, I reached out to my father, thinking the great and mighty Alistair Caine would welcome a daughter with open arms. Instead, he sent them to kill me. Turns out Daddy isn't big on bastard witch daughters.
- Harry Greenwood: I'm sorry.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: You're not the only one with memories you'd like to repress.
- Harry Greenwood: I am no closer to Macy than I was before all this started.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Aren't you? If he's your other half, then you share memories, emotions, feelings.
- [something in his mind clicks]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: What?
- Harry Greenwood: My mind. One more time. I need you to take me there.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Why?
- Harry Greenwood: I need to find that woman.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Castle Breithe.
- Harry Greenwood: Infamous. Heavily guarded. No one enters. No one leaves.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Rumor is it was enchanted.
- Harry Greenwood: Take me back.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: What?
- Harry Greenwood: Take me back, now.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [returning to the real world] You're gonna have a headache for a bit. Probably like the worst hangover.
- [following him back to the command center entrance]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Wh-What are you doing?
- Harry Greenwood: I'm tired of secrets. I'm going to Scotland. Are you coming?
- Mel Vera: Harry, we did it. We got the coordinates for the tracking spell.
- Maggie Vera: New York City. Lower Manhattan. Tribeca.
- Mel Vera: But there are no red lights anywhere near there.
- Maggie Vera: Doesn't make any sense. If she's in danger, why isn't it showing up?
- Harry Greenwood: Because she's not. In danger. At least not yet.
- Maggie Vera: How do you know that?
- Harry Greenwood: Because... he has feelings for her.
- Mel Vera: How do you know that?
- Harry Greenwood: Because... so do I. For better or worse... he and I are the same person.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Normally, it's fun to watch someone struggle and suffer, but this is getting old.
- Harry Greenwood: My brain won't let me in. What would you like me to do?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, we don't have time for therapy.
- Harry Greenwood: [seeing the cloaked figure again] She's back. Who is that?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: You tell me.
- Maggie Vera: Wouldn't this be the worst way to die, after everything? Being a dog snack for a demon hound.
- Mel Vera: I'm sorry, Mags. I wasn't right about this spell, either.
- Maggie Vera: Well, it's good to know we're both wrong sometimes.
- Mel Vera: You weren't wrong about everything. I kissed Kat. I mean, not really kissed. It happened when we went to the astral plane, so it was sort of like a dream. The real Kat has no idea if even happened.
- Maggie Vera: Well, that's okay. You didn't break the rules in the real world.
- Mel Vera: But I wanted to.
- Maggie Vera: And I look at Parker's Insta every day. We all have secret desires.
- [something in her mind clicks]
- Maggie Vera: Secret desires. We can get into Macy's head. Her journal.
- Mel Vera: In her nightstand.
- Maggie Vera: In her room.
- Mel Vera: [having not heard the dog in a while] Could he be asleep?
- Maggie Vera: Dogs do love to nap.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: What are these?
- Harry Greenwood: A prison. For every Darklighter they created. The Elders used their acolytes to separate us into two; Whitelighters and Darklighters. I met this woman, Helen McGantry; the first Whitelighter. Their first attempt, which went very badly. They must have decided it was too dangerous to give the dark halves a corporeal form, so they... turned them into smoke.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: They locked them up for eternity.
- Harry Greenwood: This is all that's left.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: The ash.
- Harry Greenwood: Darklighter residue. The Elders died, the Whitelighters died. It makes sense. So did all the Darklighters.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Well, except yours.
- Harry Greenwood: My connection with the Elders was severed. I became a free agent. So did he.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: [he looks around] What are you looking for?
- Harry Greenwood: Me.
- [finding his bottle still intact, he begins to pant heavily]
- Harry Greenwood: That's me. Oh. That's me.
- Mel Vera: [opening Macy's journal] Why is Macy drawing Harry?
- Maggie Vera: And keeping it in here?
- Mel Vera: [connecting the dots] Secret desires.
- Maggie Vera: What... what if... what if he's all of them? Dreads, denies, desires; not three things, but one.
- Mel Vera: Harry?
- Harry Greenwood: She's got to be here somewhere.
- [spotting the cloaked figure]
- Harry Greenwood: Wait. Stop. Please.
- [removing its hood, it's revealed to be Macy]
- Harry Greenwood: Macy.
- Macy Vaughn: Harry? I was so worried.
- Harry Greenwood: Worried?
- Macy Vaughn: I'm sick, Harry. Can you heal me?
- Harry Greenwood: She's talking... to him, my Darklighter. This is his memory. The psychic connection.
- Macy Vaughn: You seem different, Harry.
- Harry Greenwood: I am different. Do you like it?
- Macy Vaughn: Yes.
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Harry, this door, it's locked for a reason. The thing the Elders feared most, your connection to your other half, it must be on the other side.
- [Harry again tries to break it down]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: It's a mental firewall. You won't get through it with brute force. It's not about fighting, it's about surrendering.
- Harry Greenwood: To what?
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: To the scariest thing of all. The truth.
- [as he feels around the door, he manages to slide a panel open]
- Abigael Jameson-Caine: Bravo.
- Mel Vera: Her journal is not here. We've turned the place upside down.
- Maggie Vera: [hearing the demon dog growling] You wouldn't be so cranky if you'd taken your nap!
- Mel Vera: [her phone rings] It's Kat again.
- Maggie Vera: [the wall shakes under the dog's attacks] Well, that's a design flaw.
- Mel Vera: [her phone chimes with an incoming text] "Marisol wants you to know what you're looking for is between the sheets."
- Maggie Vera: Marisol? How does she know about mom?
- Mel Vera: She doesn't.
- Maggie Vera: [taking the sheets off Macy's bed] Well, she was wrong.
- Mel Vera: Or...
- [opening a footlocker at the bed's foot]
- Mel Vera: Her journal. It's here.
- Maggie Vera: How did Kat...?
- Mel Vera: I don't know. But she did.
- Mel Vera: [hiding from the demon dog] Are you okay?
- Maggie Vera: Yeah. Yeah.
- Mel Vera: Did you see its teeth?
- Maggie Vera: I was too freaked out by its eyes.
- Mel Vera: Every time we get it wrong, that demon dog gets more dangerous.
- Maggie Vera: Every time we get it wrong, it's another minute that Macy's missing.
- Mel Vera: We just need to get it right next time.
- Maggie Vera: If only we could get into Macy's head.
- Mel Vera: If only.
