we loved it!
iluvmoviesmusic29 March 2011
My girlfriends and I watched "All Ages Night" on Encore and then rented it from Netflix because we loved it so much. All the main characters were good but I especially liked Holly. I really understood where she was coming from and cried when Dylan broke her heart. Dylan was very cute and wished he had performed more in the movie. The funniest part of the film was when Billy went berserk. He reminded me of my brother. The Holly song was my favorite and I have been looking for the soundtrack online but haven't been able to find it. All of the music was incredible and none of us knew any of the songs. Hope the DVD comes out soon.

Good story ineptly told?

Warning: Spoilers
Talented Django Stewart plays talented Dylan Larkin who's been sent to America to stay with cousins after some unspecified trouble in the U.K.

His cousin Sean is a self-absorbed indie-rock wannabe with a strikingly pretty girlfriend Ava. Ava's best friend Holly is just getting out of a residential rehab program for some unspecified ailment. While her famous musician father cares about her she feels abandoned and alone.

Holly is intrigued by Dylan and helps him with an indie-rock inspired make-over. She also lends him her father's prized bass guitar.

The band plays a gig at a local venue but Sean's cheating is exposed and Ava in a pique kisses Dylan setting off Holly.

The Russian sub-plot is best left unmentioned.

While I wanted to care for these characters, the film makers sometimes made it difficult.

I think that the idea of casting novice actors as wannabe musicians and casting a veteran actor as the veteran musician father was an interesting idea. I just wish that it had been better executed.

I understand that this was director Nancy Montuori Stein's first feature length film. It's not bad as far as it goes but there was some time wasted in weird asides that could have been better used in deepening some of the main character back-stories.
