Las Vegas was Elvis' "favorite city" . . .
oscaralbert7 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
. . . agree the 14 talking heads presented here as Elvis experts or Las Vegas historians (or both). But since there's not an ounce of critical thinking exercised in KINGDOM, no one utters the phrase "Sin City" which has long been synonymous with Vegas, or talks about how the "fit 175-pound" entertainer of 1969 transforms into Jabba the Blue Suede Hound Dog by the time that "The King" passes away after 50 too many stays in Vegas. The first 9 minutes of this 20 1/2-minute documentary focus on Elvis' 1963 flick, VIVA LAS VEGAS. Most of the remaining time is devoted to talking about how Elvis made a 1969 comeback as a Sin City headliner after bombing out while being billed as a comedy act in 1956. Though Elvis' lover of the early 1960s contributes her two cents' worth, his VIVA LAS VEGAS co-star Ann-Margret does NOT chime in here, even via archival interview footage. Maybe many of those closest to "The King" find it too painful to discuss the influence that his Las Vegas kingdom had upon his life and career.
