- Deputy Olson: I thought you might like to take a look at the gun that killed our auto repair man. Ballistics just checked it out against those slugs.
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: Where did you find it? In August's room?
- Deputy Olson: No - Dillon's.
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: Dillon's? Man kills eight times, Harry, but goes to the gas chamber once. You know, I hate to give that character back to the FBI; we take awfully good care of him here. Bring August out here. And to think I tried to pin it on the poor devil.
- John Dillon: Do you carry hair cream?
- August: What color?
- John Dillon: Blonde.
- August: One moment... this is our big seller - one dollar, and this is a lighter shade - two dollars.
- John Dillon: Is that a fast color?
- August: Well, yes, but I wouldn't go in swimming without a bathing cap, which we carry.
- [Dillon examines his own wanted poster]
- John Dillon: He looks like a pretty tough fella.
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: So they say.
- John Dillon: You don't think so?
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: No.
- John Dillon: But I heard he shot quite a few people; that he's real tough.
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: Two FBI men, two old bank tellers, a frightened old lady and a cross-eyed junkie.
- John Dillon: Are you sayin' the FBI men were soft?
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: They were shot from ambush.
- John Dillon: Oh. You seem to know a lot about this fellow.
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: I know this... he's just another hood - yellow. Take his gun away and he's just another guy like, well, like you.
- John Dillon: Like me? A terrible man like that? You must be kidding!
- Sheriff Frank Morgan: Harry, if a guy hates his brother-in-law, why would he call in the sheriff to find him before anyone else even notices he's missing?
- Deputy Olson: That's easy. When a man's waving a flag, you don't look at his face, you look at the flag.
