The door for 221B Baker Street has a knocker AND an electric doorbell. An electric doorbell wasn't common until after 1913, when electric transformers replaced batteries and were wired into the home's current. Sherlock Holmes lived at his 221B Baker Street from 1881 to 1904, a good few years before the electric doorbell would have been used.
