Scorpio Film Releasing has announced that its next production, and most ambitious to date, will be the feature film 2009: Mutants of the Apocalypse, a unique look at a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by outlandishly deformed mutants, ruthlessly violent gangs, corruptible leaders, wasteland temptresses, and the most badass antihero in movie history: Python Diamond.
From the Press Release:
New England genre film director Richard Griffin tackles his loftiest vision yet in an epic production of grand scale action and science fiction. As with Griffin’s other films Nun Of That, Beyond The Dunwich Horror, Atomic Brain Invasion, and upcoming The Disco Exorcist (read more about that here), 2009: Mutants Of The Apocalypse will be a genre inspired adventure movie much like Escape from New York or the Italian “Spaghetti-Apocalypse” films Bronx Warriors, The New Barbarians, and Fall of New York. Griffin explains that “with Mutants of the Apocalypse I wanted to...

Stories like this one are why I love writing for Dread Central. Where else could we learn about a movie called The Disco Exorcist?!?
From the Press Release:
Scorpio Film Releasing is proud to announce that their next production will be The Disco Exorcist, a blood-soaked tale of revenge, sex, black magic, disco dancing, and mountains of cocaine. New England genre film director Richard Griffin takes on his bloodiest, sexiest film yet with a production so lurid that only a rating of Nc-17 will suffice.
As with Griffin’s spot-on genre throwback Nun of That and Beyond the Dunwich Horror, The Disco Exorcist promises to be a pitch perfect representation of the 1970’s exploitation genre. "In this age of soulless state-of-the-art, 3D, IMAX CGI-laden 'filmmaking', we thought it would be exciting to bring the art of cinema back to its most basic. Film. Real film ... with grain and scratches, warts and all.

Fango got the scoop on a new indie slasher movie called Lee, written and directed by John C. Dusek, a visual FX artist whose credits include Beyond The Dunwich Horror and Nun Of That for fellow indie filmmaker Richard Griffin. In the DesertGrind Films production, the titular maniac stalks a group of quad-riding friends in a remote part of the Mojave Desert.
“Working with Richard really got me interested in creating my own film,” Dusek says. “I’ve questioned Richard to death throughout the production of Lee, and would say that my biggest influence in creating a horror movie would be Richard Griffin and his love of the genre.”
Lee’s cast is comprised of a number of feature first-timers, including Kathryn M. Hoyt, Jessena Fernandez, Noah Webb, Sandy Oliver (pictured), James Love and, as the eponymous murderer, Joe Pegorin. All of them, Dusek says, were happy collaborators on a scenario few of them survive.

Busy actor Jeff Dylan Graham, whose long genre résumé includes October Moon, Beyond The Dunwich Horror and 100 Tears, dropped us a line to let us know about his new project Baby Jane? Written and directed by William Clift, it’s a take-off on the 1962 Gothic classic What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?—only with male actors (Matthew Martin and J. Conrad Frank) camping it up in drag in the roles originally portrayed by Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
“Being a huge fan of What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?, I was more than enthusiastic about being involved in this film,” Graham tells Fango. “It was amazing to me that no one had yet attempted to make a feature-length parody of this true cult classic.
“I was amazed by the sheer brilliance of Matthew Martin, who literally channels Bette Davis, but is a strong actor in his own right,” adds Graham,...
