- Bill Buchanan: [Whispering to each other while being held hostage by Juma inside the White House] listen to me, Juma's not "solely" coordinating this attack
- Jack Bauer: What'd you mean?
- Jack Bauer: I heard him talking on his SAT phone: his coordinating with someone on the outside. They were giving him real time intel
- Jack Bauer: You think it's someone inside the White House?
- Bill Buchanan: I don't know. Even if we take Juma down, the President may still be in danger. You're the only one I know who can do this: find out who Juma is working with
- Derek Watts: [after hanging up the phone] that was Agent Moss
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: What does he have to say?
- Derek Watts: His still requesting you authorize a rescue operation
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: Does he have anymore intel about what the hell is going on in there?
- Derek Watts: No sir, he deployed two units with deep van parabolic but all they were able to get was static. They think Juma is using some kind of "jamming" equipment: they've also got spotters at every "possible" angle around the building but they haven't been able to see inside
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: So we still don't know if Juma has the President or if the President is locked inside the safe room?
- Derek Watts: No sir, we don't
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: I will not authorize any action until I know the status of the President: relay that to Agent Moss
- Derek Watts: Yes sir
- Jack Bauer: [Whispering while being held hostage by Juma and his men] we need to make a move to try and save the President
- Bill Buchanan: How?
- Jack Bauer: In the lockdown room, there were five canisters of CH-4. Before we surrendered ourselves to Juma, I opened the valves: the next few minutes the room's going to be saturated with natural gas. It's going to take one spark to set it off. I think the explosion will be large enough to take out most of Juma's men, that's when you can make your move
- Bill Buchanan: How do we set it off?
- Jack Bauer: I'll make a run for the lockdown room, try and draw their fire: all we need is one straight bullet
- Bill Buchanan: That's a suicide play
- Jack Bauer: We don't have a choice. Just make sure you can get the President and get her out of here, when she knows about the plan, she'll be ready
- Senator Blaine Mayer: [to Bill after overhearing their conversation] what are you planning? Are you going to do "something"?
- Bill Buchanan: When "it happens", you'll know about it
- Senator Blaine Mayer: [Angrily] damn it, if you're planning "something", I want to know what it is
- Jack Bauer: [to Blaine] shut up
- Larry Moss: [Through teleconference, referring to Juma forcing President Taylor to deliver his speech over the internet] sir, are you getting this?
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: Yes, so is the rest of the damn world
- Larry Moss: I believe Juma came here to humiliate the President and "stage" a public execution: we have a rescue operation in place, all we need is your authorization
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: You don't know what Juma's intentions are. This could be a prelude to a set of demands
- Larry Moss: There are no demands here. Sir, this is about revenge: Juma knows he'll get out of the White House alive
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: You're speculating, my advisors tell me the most prudent course of action is to try to initiate communication with Juma
- Larry Moss: [Irritated] we've been "trying" to do that: he hasn't responded. Sir, Juma has no desire to negotiate anything, his going to kill the President
- Renee Walker: [Standing next to Moss] sir, we have a tactical plan in place. It's a two prolonged assault but we're "confident" that it stands a good chance to catch Juma off guard but we're losing time, we have to initiate now
- Vice President Mitchell Hayworth: I cannot authorize any action that might result in the President's death. Try an open dialog with Juma, hold your position until you're told otherwise. I will keep this feed open
- President Allison Taylor: [Being forced to read Juma's statement while it's streamed over the internet] this is the President of the United States: six hours ago, I ordered our Armed Forces to invade Sangala. Without warning and without provocation, this attack was a criminal act motivated solely by America's desire to assert its power and influence
- Jack Bauer: Juma and his men were not working alone
- Larry Moss: What're you talking about?
- Jack Bauer: When I was in the lockdown with the President, Bill said he heard Juma talking on a SAT phone: he said Juma was getting real time intel from the outside
- Larry Moss: Who?
- Jack Bauer: I don't know: the point is I don't this threat is over and I don't think the President is safe
- Larry Moss: You sure Buchanan heard this right?
- Jack Bauer: He wouldn't have told me unless he was sure and right now the only lead we've got right now is Ryan Burnett. He knew about the attack on the White House and chances are his going to know who Juma was talking to
- Larry Moss: Alright, I'll talk to him
- Jack Bauer: No, the President already offered him immunity: he turned it down, his not going to tell you anything but he will talk to me
- Larry Moss: Why is that? Because you tortured him?
- Jack Bauer: I don't need to touch him, I just him to think I'm going to finish what I started and I promise you, he will tell us everything we need to know. The last thing Bill asked for before he died, was for me to follow this through, I owe him that. Look, I give you my word I will not touch Burnett
- Larry Moss: I understand about your friend, I do but I've got standing orders from the President to take you into custody. I've got to get you back to the FBI but I promise you I'll look into this alright?
- Ethan Kanin: [Talking privately] what is it?
- Renee Walker: Some new intel has come into our attention: we need to act on it immediately. I tried to reach the President but I couldn't get through
- Ethan Kanin: I'm listening
- Renee Walker: Sir, the threat against the President may not be over. We have reason to believe General Juma wasn't acting alone. Before Bill Buchanan died, he saw General Juma communicating with someone on a SAT phone
- Ethan Kanin: [Over the phone] I understand you're taking Jack Bauer back to FBI?
- Larry Moss: Yes sir, his going to be debriefed and remanded into federal custody
- Ethan Kanin: I want you to put that on hold
- Larry Moss: Sir?
- Ethan Kanin: I just spoke with Agent Walker, she just told me Juma "may" have been working with someone on the outside and there may be an ongoing threat to the President
- Larry Moss: Yes, that's true
- Ethan Kanin: I want you to send Jack Bauer to "question" Ryan Burnett
- Ethan Kanin: [after Larry doesn't respond] Agent Moss?
- Larry Moss: Sir, I think that's a mistake
- Ethan Kanin: Yes, Agent Walker shared your concerns with me and I've given this some thought. If Burnett "does" know who Juma was working with, Bauer's "approach" may be our only chance to get that information
- Larry Moss: With respect sir, Bauer almost killed this man
- Ethan Kanin: I was there Agent Moss but this will be a "controlled" interrogation: we're going to "play on" Burnett's fears. Bauer's presence alone should be enough to intimidate him into talking
- Larry Moss: Sir, Bauer is a "wild card", we have no idea what he'll do when he gets in that room with Burnett
- Ethan Kanin: I realize there's a risk: that's why you're going to do this under "my" authority, and "my" authority alone
- Larry Moss: You're not taking this to the President?
- Ethan Kanin: No, if "something" does go wrong, I want to make sure the President is "protected"
- Larry Moss: With respect sir, I think you're not telling the President is because she'd never allow this
- Ethan Kanin: [Sternly] you've made your objections clear Agent Moss, I'm not going to debate this with you. I want you to take Bauer to question Burnett: that's a direct order, do you understand?
- Larry Moss: I understand
- Ethan Kanin: And I'm counting on you to supervise every second of that interrogation. I'll expect a full report as soon as you're done
- Larry Moss: [Before hanging up] yes sir
- Jonas Hodges: So what'd we got?
- Greg Seaton: The President's alive
- Jonas Hodges: Are you sure?
- Greg Seaton: We've been monitoring interagency servers: word just went out, Juma's dead, Taylor survived
- Jonas Hodges: What happened? Do you think?
- Greg Seaton: We don't know any details yet but we'll keep monitoring
- Jonas Hodges: Well, you've got to admire the damn bitch: she doesn't give up easily
- Greg Seaton: I'm sorry sir, we just didn't have enough control of the situation
- Jonas Hodges: You look tense. Do me a favor? Have a drink, relax. Juma held up his part of the bargain, we're getting what we wanted. As far as I'm concerned, everything is still on track. Where are the weapons now?
- Greg Seaton: It should be ready for pick up in the next couple hours
- Jonas Hodges: Good, get Chapman on the phone, I want to nail down some targets
- President Allison Taylor: I want to speak personally to the families of everyone we lost tonight, so keep me informed as their notified
- Patrick: Absolutely, madam President
- President Allison Taylor: And the minute Angela Nelson gets here, send her straight up to me to start working on the speech for the country
- Patrick: Of course madam President
- President Allison Taylor: Patrick, you have just been through a terrible ordeal, are you sure you're ok?
- Patrick: I'll be fine: it helps to focus on work
- President Allison Taylor: I understand
- Ethan Kanin: [while hugging] thank God your alright, how you feeling?
- President Allison Taylor: Like I just woke up from a nightmare, it was unbelievable
- Ethan Kanin: I can't even imagine: how's Olivia?
- President Allison Taylor: She's shaken up but she's going to be ok
- Ethan Kanin: I'm glad to hear it
- President Allison Taylor: We lost some good people tonight, we're going to need all the help we can get. I'm thinking about bringing Olivia on as a "special advisor"
- Ethan Kanin: Madam President, I can understand you not wanting to be "separated" from your daughter after what's happened
- President Allison Taylor: Especially after what's "happened." We need people who can do the job
- Ethan Kanin: I'm not disputing Olivia's competence but she's also a political liability: nobody's forgotten what she did during the campaign. Leaking damaging personal information about your opponent to the press
- President Allison Taylor: Olivia knows what she did was wrong
- Ethan Kanin: She almost cost you the election
- President Allison Taylor: She's changed: we talked about it, she's accepting full responsibility, she has learned from her mistakes. I'm willing to put the past behind us so we can move ahead
- Ethan Kanin: I still think it's a mistake
- President Allison Taylor: I don't care what you think
- President Allison Taylor: [Regretting what she just said] I am so sorry. You know I don't mean that but I've made up my mind. I want Olivia to join my Administration and I want it to come from you
- Ethan Kanin: [Surprised] me?
- President Allison Taylor: You "offering" her this position would be a good way to extend an "olive branch." I need the two of you to make peace
- Ethan Kanin: [Before standing up] alright madam President, I'll talk to her
- President Allison Taylor: Thank you Ethan, I understand Agent Walker was trying to reach me?
- Ethan Kanin: That's right but I spoke to her
- President Allison Taylor: What did she want?
- Ethan Kanin: Just some "procedural" matters, I took care of it
- Larry Moss: I just got off the phone with Ethan Kanin
- Renee Walker: Look, I didn't want to go behind your back but you didn't leave me any choice
- Larry Moss: I didn't leave you a choice? How about you "choose" to follow orders?
- Renee Walker: I'm sorry
- Larry Moss: No, I don't think you are
- Renee Walker: I have seen Jack do terrible things today: things that I still can't justify them but he has been right every time and you know what? I can't help but think if we'd just stay out of his way none of this would've happened. But I am sorry I went behind your back but I promise you this "play" with Burnett will go down just the way Jack says
- Larry Moss: If you think you're going with Bauer, you are out of your mind: he may have got a White House order but I am still running this operation. I'll take Bauer to see Burnett, your going back to FBI. I want you to clean out your office, hand in your badge. I'm suspending you indefinitely
- Renee Walker: Hey, I know your upset but this isn't over, you're going to need me
- Larry Moss: [Before walking away] what I need are people I can trust, I thought that was you?
- Larry Moss: You may have thought you got what you wanted, getting Renee to go behind my back but Ethan Kanin ordered me to let you question Burnett. I'm going to be watching you: every second you're in there. You do one thing I don't like you're finished, you understand me?
- Jack Bauer: Understood, you should leave Renee out of this, she was just doing what she thought was right
- Larry Moss: Yeah well, she might lose her job over it
- Jack Bauer: She's the best agent you've got
- Larry Moss: She circumvented my authority, I can't just ignore that. I've known this woman for nine years, I've never seen the kind of "things" she's done in the last nine hours
- Olivia Taylor: [Referring to his gunshot wound] how's your arm?
- Aaron Pierce: I should be back on my feet in a couple hours, and you ma'am?
- Olivia Taylor: It's nothing that a little Aspirin will take care of. I want to thank you for what you did: you took a bullet for me, you saved my life
- Aaron Pierce: There's no need to thank me ma'am
- Olivia Taylor: Right, you were just doing your job. Well, only this case it wasn't "really" your job, since you retired four years ago
- Aaron Pierce: Yes ma'am that's true
- Olivia Taylor: Do you mind if I ask you why? Did it have to do with Martha Logan?
- Aaron Pierce: Martha and I were "close"
- Olivia Taylor: It must've been hard for you, what happened to her
- Aaron Pierce: I prefer not to talk about it
- Olivia Taylor: I'm sorry
- Aaron Pierce: You don't have to apologize
- Olivia Taylor: Well, I hope you won't be a stranger Agent Pierce
- Aaron Pierce: Thank you, and it's "Aaron"
- Olivia Taylor: Ok Aaron. You get some rest
- Patrick: [Showing him on a monitor] we've narrowed the list down to twelve targets all along the eastern sea border: they're all within kilometers of the base
- Jonas Hodges: How many people?
- Patrick: Ten to fifteen thousand in each target zone
- Jonas Hodges: And our kill ratio if you would?
- Patrick: Well, we've chosen these areas with maximum population density: the ratio could be as high as eighty percent
- Jonas Hodges: Let's "hope" we'll never have to have find out. Get these coordinates down to the boys in TACT OPS, have them start programming them in
- Patrick: [Before leaving] yes sir
- Greg Seaton: [after entering the room] we just intercepted a flash memo from the FBI: Jack Bauer is on his way to Kennedy Memorial Hospital to question Burnett
- Jonas Hodges: Bauer was arrested, how is this possible?
- Greg Seaton: There was an Executive Order from the White House: giving Bauer "access" to Burnett
- Jonas Hodges: Bauer will finish what he started, Burnett will tell him everything
- Greg Seaton: No, he won't sir, I've already sent somebody to the hospital to "deal" with Burnett. He can take care of Bauer at the same time
- Jonas Hodges: Who'd you send?
- Greg Seaton: Quinn
- Jonas Hodges: Oh, Quinn's good, Bauer's good too
- Ethan Kanin: [Talking privately] the blunt fact of the matter is this Administration just suffered some terrible losses and we need help: the President and I would like you to consider coming on board "special advisor" for the President
- Olivia Taylor: I... have to say... I'm a little surprised
- Ethan Kanin: Surprised?
- Olivia Taylor: That you'd sign off on this
- Ethan Kanin: Your mother said she's ready to put the past behind her and so am I
- Olivia Taylor: I overstepped my bounds during the campaign and I was wrong
- Ethan Kanin: I'm glad you see it that way
- Olivia Taylor: But it's not the past that "concerns" me: it's what's happening right now and what's been happening ever since my mother took Office
- Ethan Kanin: [Confused] excuse me?
- Olivia Taylor: Do you think any of this would happen if my mother had a Chief Advisor who knew what the hell was going on in her Administration?
- Ethan Kanin: What're you talking about?
- Olivia Taylor: Her government was corrupted on every level and it all happened right under your nose: even you have to "admit", it's an unconscionable failure on your part. Frankly, I'm surprised you haven't tendered your resignation
- Ethan Kanin: You have no right to speak to me that way. You don't know what you're talking about, you don't have the "facts"
- Olivia Taylor: I intend to get the "facts." I'm going to find out "exactly" who failed my mother and I'm going to make sure that person is never in a position to do it again
- Olivia Taylor: [Before getting up to leave] excuse me
- Jack Bauer: [Interrogating him while Burnett is treated in the hospital as Moss watches and listens from a monitor] wake up, remember me?
- Ryan Burnett: [Surprised to see him] oh my God, what the hell are you doing here?
- Jack Bauer: I've just come from the White House: Juma's attack failed. His dead, so are his men. A lot of innocent people died today, good people, including a friend of mine: Bill Buchanan, you might've met him
- Ryan Burnett: [Nervously] you stay the hell away from me. I want to talk to a lawyer right now. Do you hear me? I want to talk to a lawyer, somebody get me the hell out of here
- Jack Bauer: You're not going anywhere, it's just you and me pal. You really think you were going to get away with it?
- Ryan Burnett: Somebody please help me
- Jack Bauer: You're wasting your breath, nobody's coming for you
