- Jack Bauer: Damn it.
- Tony Almeida: Forget about him, Jack. He was dead the minute he stepped out that door. You and I both know that.
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] Starkwood was involved in everything that happened today: they were the ones who helped Juma and his men bring down those planes and attack the White House. In exchange, they were allowed to develop and manufacture WMD's in Sangala: a bio weapon. Apparently, it's already in the US
- Tony Almeida: Who else knows about this?
- Jack Bauer: No one, Senator and I were "piecing" the information together right before he was killed
- Tony Almeida: You said the weapons are already "here." Are they in possession of it?
- Jack Bauer: I don't think so: the text message I got off their agent's cell phone said "Port of Alexandria, Lot C, 10:15pm"
- Tony Almeida: Why not just call the FBI? And lock the whole place down?
- Jack Bauer: [Irritated] because we're fugitives, no one's going to believe us. We need to know "exactly" where that weapon is before we call anyone else in. I need to know if your "with me" on this?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, I'm "with you"
- Jack Bauer: Ok, meet me at the north end of the port: there an access road right before the entrance
- Tony Almeida: [Before hanging up] alright, I'll be there
- President Allison Taylor: [Over the phone] it's over, Dubaku and Juma are dead: everyone responsible for the terrorist attacks, and their responsible for Roger
- Henry Taylor: Thank God for that
- President Allison Taylor: And there's something else, something "good", that's come out of all this: Olivia is here at the White House
- Henry Taylor: Olivia?
- President Allison Taylor: She's come "home." This crisis, it brought us together. I've asked her to stay on as "special advisor", and she agreed
- Henry Taylor: I can't begin to tell you how happy that makes me
- President Allison Taylor: Me too. Sweetheart, you're tired, you should get some rest. Olivia and I will come to the hospital just as soon as we can
- Henry Taylor: When you can, I'm not going anywhere. Give Olivia my love
- President Allison Taylor: [Before hanging up] we love you too
- Ethan Kanin: [Over the phone] please tell me you have Jack Bauer in custody?
- Larry Moss: I wish that were the case: the truth is... sir, its Senator Mayer... his dead
- Ethan Kanin: What?
- Larry Moss: He was murdered at his house. We only found out that Bauer was on his way over here a short time ago. Unfortunately, we got here too late
- Ethan Kanin: Wait a minute. Are you telling me Jack Bauer killed a United States Senator?
- Larry Moss: That's the assumption we're working under, yes sir
- Ethan Kanin: [Raises his voice] how could you let this happen?
- Larry Moss: He had us all fooled sir
- Ethan Kanin: I released Jack Bauer into your custody, I ordered you to keep him on a short leash
- Larry Moss: No, you are not going to lay this one at my feet: it was your decision to give Bauer access to Burnett, I advised you against it
- Larry Moss: [after Kanin doesn't respond] Mr. Kanin?
- Ethan Kanin: I'm sorry, what did you say?
- Larry Moss: I said I advised you against it
- Ethan Kanin: [Realizing his mistake] yes, you did
- Larry Moss: Sir, I have teams "sweeping" the area
- Ethan Kanin: Just find him
- Larry Moss: [Before hanging up] yeah, I will
- President Allison Taylor: Doctors expect him to make a full recovery
- Ethan Kanin: Henry's a lot tougher than anyone thought
- President Allison Taylor: Oh, maybe this day will end on a positive note?
- President Allison Taylor: [after noticing the expression on his face] what is it? What's wrong?
- Ethan Kanin: I'm sorry to have to tell you this madam President but Senator Mayer is dead
- President Allison Taylor: [Stunned] what happened?
- Ethan Kanin: All evidence points to the fact that he was "murdered" by Jack Bauer
- President Allison Taylor: Bauer?
- Ethan Kanin: [Shakes his head] it's hard to believe I know
- President Allison Taylor: It doesn't make any sense. After everything he's done today, why on earth would he do this?
- Ethan Kanin: We'll know more when we find him
- President Allison Taylor: My God
- Ethan Kanin: Madam President, in light of what's "happened" and for the sake of your Administration, I'm afraid I have no choice but to resign as your Chief of Staff
- President Allison Taylor: Ethan...
- Ethan Kanin: Madam President, please... you need to hear this: inevitably, it'll "come to light", that I sanctioned Bauer's release from custody. Unless I step down immediately, the damage to your Office and you personally will be..."extensive"
- President Allison Taylor: Olivia has already "killed" this story once today, we can "control" the "damage"
- Ethan Kanin: No, not even Olivia can "control" it no, not after this savage murder. The truth is madam President, I didn't do enough to protect you. The truth is I failed you, I should "shoulder the blame" for what's happened
- President Allison Taylor: You're really taking this too far
- Ethan Kanin: Am I? I'm not so sure. As your daughter's made abundantly clear, I have a lot to answer for
- President Allison Taylor: You have done nothing but be an invaluable advisor to me and an even better friend
- Ethan Kanin: I appreciate you saying that madam President but Olivia's right. Political knives will be out: every decision I've made will be scrutinized. They'll be calls for a special prosecutor. You're a great woman, you have great work yet to do, I'm a liability to you now. Don't let me "compromise" your next three years in Office. Don't let me "sink" your agenda
- President Allison Taylor: [Walks up to him, correcting him] "our" agenda
- Ethan Kanin: Yes, "our" agenda. Trust me madam President, it's the "right thing" to do... accept my resignation, you'll have a letter on your desk in the morning
- Olivia Taylor: [after entering into his office] I just came to say how sorry I am
- Ethan Kanin: Well, I appreciate the courtesy: if not the sincerity
- Olivia Taylor: [Referring to him voluntarily resigning] as much as I feel this is what's best for my mother, on a personal level, I'm sorry you had to go through this, and for some of the harsher things I said to you in anger
- Ethan Kanin: Well, I suppose I owe you an apology too, for accusing of leaking my role in this to the press. I really believe you're trying to blindside me
- Olivia Taylor: [Amused] come on, considering the impression I gave you, I'm not surprised
- Ethan Kanin: As someone who's known you for most of her life, I'd like to offer some advice
- Olivia Taylor: Of course
- Ethan Kanin: Ambition can be a valuable quality: here in Washington, as well as life, and if unchecked, it can be unhealthy, if not dangerous. You've got yourself a seat at the table, she listens to you. But running a country isn't like running a campaign. It's not about doing whatever it takes to win, it's about doing what's right for the American people
- Olivia Taylor: Sometimes those things aren't "mutually exclusive"
- Olivia Taylor: [Over the phone] it's me, you can go ahead with that story: it just got better
- Ken Dellao: Tell me
- Olivia Taylor: Ethan Kanin is resigning
- Ken Dellao: What happened? I thought the plan was for him to "twist in the wind" for a while?
- Olivia Taylor: His hand was forced. It seems Jack Bauer just murdered Senator Mayer
- Ken Dellao: [Shocked] what? Does anybody have this yet?
- Olivia Taylor: Not yet: it's all yours and it's in time for the eleven o'clock news. I told you I'd take care of you didn't I?
- Ken Dellao: You're too good to me
- Olivia Taylor: You just hold up your end, make sure Kanin is the fall guy. My mother's nowhere near this, understand?
- Ken Dellao: She really doesn't have idea that you're the leak?
- Olivia Taylor: No, and it better stay that way
- Ken Dellao: She won't hear it from me. I want to know when we're having that dinner you promised
- Olivia Taylor: Maybe next week?
- Ken Dellao: You always say "next week"
- Olivia Taylor: You better get to work if you're going to make that broadcast
- Larry Moss: [Over the phone] Senator Mayer is dead
- Renee Walker: [while in a holding room] where's Jack?
- Larry Moss: I don't know: we don't have him
- Renee Walker: Ok, you think he did this? First Burnett, now Mayer?
- Larry Moss: Looks that way
- Renee Walker: What'd you mean "looks that way?"
- Larry Moss: That's why I'm calling, Senator Mayer was killed with a UMP40 submachine gun. Bauer's on the run, where did he get a hold of a weapon like that? Also, there's evidence to suggest there was a "third party" in the house
- Renee Walker: What kind of "evidence?"
- Larry Moss: Well, unexplained slugs, broken set of French doors, and a chair where it doesn't belong
- Renee Walker: Ok, so your saying this "third party" killed Mayer?
- Larry Moss: Well, you know I wouldn't be saying if I knew what the hell Bauer was doing here in the first place. Look, I want to meet you "half way", I do but if you even expect me to "entertain" Bauer's innocence, you have got to help me here
- Renee Walker: I can't. If Jack is "underground", he is "underground" for a reason
- Larry Moss: There were files open on Mayer's computer: documents relating to his investigation on Starkwood, so just tell me that. Did Starkwood ever come up in your conversation with Bauer?
- Larry Moss: [after she doesn't respond implying the answer is yes] look maybe I should've trusted you before? But you have got to trust me now
- Renee Walker: The man who framed Jack for Burnett's murder was John Quinn: a Starkwood contractor. Jack believes they were behind Juma and all of the terrorist attacks today. He went to Mayer to get the evidence to prove it. I have to "assume" Quinn followed him there, that's all that I know, I swear
- Renee Walker: Ok, I believe you, just sit tight. I'll be in touch soon
- Renee Walker: Let me help, Jack could still be out there, maybe in trouble?
- Larry Moss: [Before she hangs up] no, I can't release you, not yet
- Larry Moss: [Over the phone] where the hell have you been?
- Jack Bauer: I need you to scramble multiple teams to a waste station on highway 236: exit 29. I'm in a big rig about10 miles south
- Larry Moss: What's going on?
- Jack Bauer: You need to send a CDC recovery unit
- Larry Moss: Why?
- Jack Bauer: I'm in possession of a biological weapon interdicted at the Port of Alexandria
- Larry Moss: Biological weapon?
- Jack Bauer: Just listen to me, I don't care if you arrest me, I don't care if you shoot me, just get your teams out here. I'm being pursued by hostiles
- Larry Moss: Starkwood?
- Jack Bauer: How do you know about Starkwood?
- Larry Moss: I talked to Renee and I saw what was on Mayer's computer
- Jack Bauer: Their coming after this weapon: you can count on it but be advised Toy Almeida is being held hostage
- Larry Moss: Alright, I'll call an all agency alert: we'll secure both locations
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] I'm still on route 236 but I had to stop approximately seven miles before the waste station
- Larry Moss: I got two units moving to you right now
- Jack Bauer: Yeah, well you're going to have to redirect them
- Larry Moss: Why?
- Jack Bauer: Starkwood "reacquired" the bio weapon: they managed to access one of the ducts on one of the canisters. When they had me "pinned down", they air lifted the entire freight right out of here. They were headed due west from my current position
- Larry Moss: West, they got a large military facility in that area
- Jack Bauer: Ok good, redirect the teams there
- Larry Moss: I can't assault a private compound unless I have proof that a weapon exists
- Jack Bauer: Ok, where's the CDC?
- Larry Moss: Their scrambling right now
- Jack Bauer: Send them to me: you'll have all the "proof" you need
- Larry Moss: What happened?
- Jack Bauer: One of the canisters was "breached" during the interdiction, some of the bio agent was released... I was exposed
- Larry Moss: Ok, just sit tight, CDC is on their way, they'll be there soon
