I'm from a family that three generations ago had such enduring procreation that kids would sometimes have older siblings who would be having children when their mother was still having kids.

Folks like this are extreme outliers in most of America these days.
There are usually overarching justifications.

I will also say the way they leave a lot of the child care to the children is problematic.
But I think that's the least of their problems.
