On Friday, 29th May 2020 The Sun newspaper reported that ITV was poised to announce that it has commissioned a second series of the sitcom. When asked to confirm the reports, ITV have stated that the show will return. ITV is expected to formally announce the recommission later in the year. Series 2 of Kate & Koji is likely to be filmed and broadcast in 2021, but could return for a Christmas Special in December 2020.

The set for Kate's cafe is the same as Bulent's cafe in the show "Count Arthur Strong (2013-2017)."
On 17th November 2022, ITV confirmed that the sitcom will not be returning for a third series. An ITV spokesperson said "We've loved having Kate & Koji on the channel but after two series there are currently no plans for a third. We would like to thank all the cast and crew for their hard work in bringing these characters alive on screen and in the studio in front of a live audience." ITV / ITVX have commissioned several new comedies, however, none of the new sitcom commissions announced are studio based shows filmed in front of an audience.
