Cute Movie!

The song at the very end about the mistletoe and "lets kiss this Christmas". Is there a version of this I can buy and download? It's a wonderful Christmas song!

Megan Hilty is a natural music super star
phd_travel2 November 2019
Megan and Marcus look quite good together. It's nice to see real size women take the lead roles in Hallmark movies for a change. Megan is a natural as music superstar back and snowed in in her home town. She does the usual reconnecting with friends and and old flame.

Sweet indeed
TheLittleSongbird22 December 2020
Lifetime Christmas films are a mixed bag, some are good, some are bad, some are somewhere in between. Few from what has been seen are unwatchable though. 'Sweet Mountain Christmas' premise is far from being original but it did have potential and sounded agreeable. Megan Hilty is a very talented singer and Teryl Rothery has a knack for stealing scenes, though how good Marcus Rosner is in his films is dependent on how his characters are written.

2019's 'Sweet Mountain Christmas' is nothing extraordinary or a classic, but it was likeable and engaging enough fluff with a warm sweet centre and many good things. 2019 was a very hit and miss year for Lifetime, but while not one of their very best overall 'Sweet Mountain Christmas' is towards being one of their better 2019 festive efforts. And this is by quite some way, as 2019 was a particularly variable year for Lifetime (leaning towards unexceptional).

'Sweet Mountain Christmas' has more good things than bad. Am going to briefly get the bad out of the way. The characters could have done with more development, they are not dull or annoying but they don't start from somewhere and grow, will agree that Laney is too perfect from the start. Character motivations could have been delved into more, as it was somewhat distracting to think why a certain character is acting like this.

Parts of the script are a bit too awkward and the cheese factor is a bit much. The story does compel, but takes somewhat too long to get going and can be too slight and at times silly.

There are so many good things despite all that. It is not lavish, but it doesn't try to do too much stylistically while not being static. The scenery is very pretty to look at. The music doesn't drown out anything, nor does it feel like it's too low key. Absolutely agree with those that have praised the wonderful "Lets Kiss This Christmas". The direction is sympathetic without lagging too much. While the script is far from perfect, it does get better as 'Sweet Mountain Christmas' progresses.

Again, while the story is imperfect, it also has a good deal to like about it, despite it being very typical Lifetime in terms of what goes on. It is charming and light-hearted, complete with a warm heart, a pleasingly and not too sugary centre and a good deal of smile-worthy moments. While there could have been more conflict and the central relationship could have done with more growth, it's not a bland film, it doesn't feel too contrived and there is definite chemistry that looks at ease. Hilty is a vibrant presence and wows with her voice, and Rosner's charming performance here is among his better ones in my view. Rothery steals every scene she's in.

Concluding, not great but nice. 6.5/10

Sing along if you know the words!
adamjohns-425752 March 2021
It's nice to finally see one of these films and find that they've actually got someone who can sing to play a singer for a change. Megan Hilty has a great voice and some of the harmonies she has with others in this film are lovely.

Marcus Rosner doesn't need to be able to sing, he just has to look gorgeous and he does it very perfectly. He's also very good in the role too.

One of the unsung heroes and veterans of these Made For TV Christmas Films is Teryl Rothery. I have seen her in so many and she is always great.

As for the story, we have seen it all before, but it doesn't matter, because it's done well here. It's a bit more real than some of the others, in a good way.

The lighting seems a bit dark for some reason, but otherwise it's all put together well.

Another one to add to my regular Christmas viewing.

Except for a little singing this is mostly rehash of same old Christmas romance stories
Jackbv12321 November 2019
Big city girl comes home and runs into old flame that she once abandoned (but maybe not totally one-sided). Like so many Lifetime movies this year, storm Meghan strands her and she can't get where she needs to be for her fading career. Meanwhile she remembers what she loved about home. Almost all of this has been done dozens of times, if not over a hundred times.

So what makes this different. Not much beyond a few songs by Hilty. I can't say the personalities were that appealing. Laney starts out totally self-centered, a little rude, and almost mean at times. Her relationship with Robby has no spark and is frankly boring. I didn't really care about that, or about her career developments either.

Teryl Rothery put in her usual great supporting role.

I'm glad that this movie takes advantage of the people with good voices and gives us some Christmas music. I wish more Christmas movies would do it and that the ones that do a little would do more.

The movie ends with several minutes of professional quality singing performances including a Christmas song that I was not previously familiar with.

Pretty bad
rebekahrox3 November 2019
I guess I expected a bit more effort to support Megan Hilty, a fairly high profile singer-actress. I was disappointed in the writing as Greg Rossen has penned some of my favorite Hallmarks. And Lifetime movies are usually a bit of a cut above. Neither the plot nor the motivations of the MCs or the townspeople made sense. Instead of welcoming their home town star, they turned a cold shoulder to her when she was trying to be involved in helping the community. If your town is in trouble, here is a hint. Be nice to the famous and rich superstar who is coming home for a visit. If they were trying to be loyal to their beloved mayor and ex-boyfriend of our star, that's wack too. He was the one who stood her up, not the other way around. Did not understand the lack of communication. They should have done a better job with Laney's character arc, which was non-existent. She was nice (if understandably busy) from beginning to end. All in all a cookie cutter assembly line effort complete with a "cute" popcorn fight instead of the usual cliche snow-ball fight. I expect to roll my eyes a bit during a Hallmark-type movie, but cringing is a no-no.

The best country movie christmas film of 2019 (so far)
doctorsmoothlove23 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Sweet Mountain Christmas" is the kind of Christmas movie I wouldn't associate with Lifetime. It's subject matter seems better fit for Hallmark. The film isn't terrible even though it could really have used a plot with more tension. At least this film is better than Hallmark's Mistletoe Secret which features a real-life country singer in Kellie Pickler.

A country music star, Laney Blu, played by Broadway actor Megan Hilty travels from Los Angeles to her Tennessee home to visit her mother before Christmas. Winter Storm Meghan (yes, that one) drops feet of snow on the roads and Laney is grounded for Christmas. Her car gets stuck, and Laney is rescued by Robbie, a childhood flame and the current mayor. Robbie is one of those movie characters that can do whatever the plot requires. He is a snow plower, mayor, architect, concert planner, and even a Christmas decorator. Seriously, if the film featured a trip to space, I'm sure he would conveniently be an astronaut. Robbie is played by Marcus Rosner who is pretty solid. He doesn't need to display an array of emotions, so it's ok.

The film does feature a bit of character development. Lacey's hometown feels that she has left them behind as if she is embarrassed to be from there. Over time as she interacts with everyone, they begin to humanize her as she does to them. There are several scenes in which we see her social media or tabloids portray her in ways that are unreal. The public has believed only what it sees through the eyes of the media.

Hilty is a good vocalist. I haven't seen her live although I would like to. She sings the standard public domain holiday films as well as an original song I believe at the very end. The film is not worth watching just for them but it was a nice touch. The film as a whole is passable.

Absolutely loved this movie!
sheryl-681-60618216 November 2019
As soon as I watched this movie, I wanted to immediately watch it again. The music was great and it was nice to see the main actress actually know how to really sing and sing great! I googled her and found out she played the Patsy Cline part in the movie Patsy and Loretta. I had to watch that too. What a voice!! There actually was chemistry between her and the main man character. What a nice change for Hallmark movies. I have now watched this movie three times in three days and replayed the last part of the movie at least four more times. Love the two songs at the end.

Loved It
dsweeting-838-6429368 November 2019
Megan Hilty never disappoints & has a wonderful voice. Even thou you know the leads have a past that didn't end well, it was great that for a change they weren't hateful to each other. Of course that wasn't the case for some others in town, you know there is always someone who's jealous or trying to get in between the two "love birds". It's definitely a favorite for me so far this season.

Good movie, and as an extra bonus, the women look natural - no unrealistic weight expectations - which is a really great and needed thing. Tired of movies making women starve and feeling not pretty enough.

Loved this movie! A list Actors with great chemistry
waterskicindy7 November 2022
Absolutely, loved this movie!

I adored Megan Hilty when she portrayed Patsy Cline in Patsy and Loretta. At first, I didn't know it was the same person until I looked her up. She's an amazing actress with a incredible voice. Great chemistry between her and Marcus. This is the first movie I've seen Marcus play where he looked more natural. It shows he CAN play the main lead and very well. Especially, with a great script like this one.

Overall, I'd love to see more Hallmark movies like this where the plot has more life and not always the same plot with different actors.

Please bring back Megan for more Hallmark movies and allow Marcus to have more range in his movies and not always the jilted boyfriend.

Marcus showed he can play the main lead and with the right co star like Megan, this movie will cross over to not just the hallmark demographic.

I also love when Hallmark cast Teryl, Lindsay Wagner and her ex husband Lee Majors, Robbie Benson, along with and all the 70's, 80's and 90's.
