- Grandma Dot: You know, when you two were kids, your grandma and I used to think you were fated to be together. I mean, you were completely inseparable.
- Pen Campbell: That was a very, very long time ago, Grandma.
- Grandma Dot: Ah well, you know the old saying. "The only thing more powerful than time is love."
- Pen Campbell: Who said that?
- Grandma Dot: I did.
- Grandma Dot: Pen, have you met Greg? He's my pharmacist. I told him you were an English teacher, so he wrote you a poem.
- Greg: You might recognize the inspiration. "Lilies are white. Daffodils are yellow. I wrote you this poem just to say hello."
- Pen Campbell: Oh, I'm so sorry. I forgot, I have to go.
- Jason Humphrey: This plan will be perfect. Think about it. There's no more set-ups, no more blind dates, no more broken sinks. And it won't be like it used to because we're just pretending. It's just for the summer.
- Jason Humphrey: I always kind of felt like you were the courageous one between the two of us. What?
- Pen Campbell: You're serious right now?
- Jason Humphrey: Yeah.
- Pen Campbell: No, you were the person that was always getting me to do the very stupid, crazy things like, oh, sailing or... Oh yeah, that time you made me walk on a very frozen lake.
- Jason Humphrey: That was not a wise choice.
- Pen Campbell: No, it was very courageous, and I did it because of you.
- Jason Humphrey: Well, I did it because of you. I always kind of felt like I was more when I was with you.
- Pen Campbell: Jason.
- Jason Humphrey: Penny.
- Pen Campbell: It's "Pen" now.
- Jason Humphrey: It's been a long time.
- Pen Campbell: Too long.
- Jason Humphrey: I thought you were just pretending. I don't want to complicate things for you, and I never want to hurt you ever again. And I know that you need your space, you have your dreams, but it's never been pretend for me, Pen. From when we were little kids to just now.
