Gorgeous animation!
kinolind30 September 2019
Okay. This movie is pretty controversial at the comedy part. I have now seen it twice and the first time I saw it, the crowd was laughing the entire time. The second time I saw it, the crowd laughed a whole lot less. So. In my opinion, this movie isn't the cleverest comedy but there are still some jokes that are hilarious (the ending for example). But now. I just have to say this. The animation is freaking gorgeous! It looks truly amazing. Hats off to whoever was responsible for the props and sets. So... even if you don't like the plot, I think you will admire the animation.

Idea does not work so well as a movie
zteelb13 January 2020
This film is based on characters from Vanamehe Multikas episodes available in the YouTube. YouTube episodes consist usually a short animations with one or more clever punch lines and some of them are quiet hilarious. Sadly the movie does not come out as well as the short episodes. You can find some good episodes hidden in the movie but most of the movie feels just like a filler till the next good scene. I can't say that I did not laugh few times, but considering how much I like the episodes, the movie felt a bit disappointment. But if you are a fan of Vanamehe Multikas, then it is worth watching this nevertheless.

Over-the-top stuff, yet uneven and sometimes protracted

I have not seen many of the cartoons forming a kind of basis and starting point for this film, but I had some ideas what to expect. Well, this three-dimensional animation was created with peculiarities (it seems that the creators enjoyed the process), and some really funny elements were used for characters and background. There was a lot of actions, funny lines, twists and turns, distinctive and matching choice of music, but the story itself was not too catchy and not too elaborate. The milk topic and related good vs. bad characters made me just shrug my shoulders and follow the events in a laid-back manner. True, I can hardly regard me as a member of its target audience.

Several references to Estonian notions and expressions apparently hinder the film being popular abroad, but locals (particularly below 40 years) interested in Vanamees-cartoons would probably value this narration with already known characters as well.

The Old Man Movie: Lactopalypse
CinemaSerf3 June 2023
I was really quite looking forward to this. A sort of grown up "Wallace and Gromit" set amongst the cutthroat Estonian dairy industry. Sadly, though, after quite a strong and explosive opening twenty minutes, it all degenerates into a rather unfunny, puerile even, series of escapades from Grandpa and two of his grandchildren who are in search of their escaped cow. Now, if you don't milk a cow every morning then there is the risk that it's udder will swell to bursting point - and that's when we get the dreaded "lactopalypse" - and nobody wants that. On their quest through the forest to retrieve their animal they encounter some hippies having a festival (looks like it's being compered by Uma Thurman), a randy tree god and the hungriest bear in the land - but can they get a-milking in time? Added to their challenge is the fact that the previous milker - who could not avert an earlier catastrophe - is in hot pursuit with his gang of chainsaw-wielding labourers hell bent on decapitating the evil beast. There are some fun, earthy, touches to the humour and the vodka-charged tractor might just save the day raises a smile, but I found the rest of it a bit repetitive. The ending takes far too long and is, I thought, just a bit tacky. It has a sort of smut to it that might have been funny in the 1960s or 1970s but now, it's just a little cringemaking. The animation is good though - reminded me a bit of Tony Hart's "Morph", and the story certainly doesn't hang about so I'd definitely recommend that you give it a go - I was just a bit disappointed.

Warning: Spoilers
I love Darvid in the 2021 Australian season of the Bachorette almost as much as I peed myself in this movie.

There is a graphic sex scene that if you've seen Anomalisa will retraumarise you.

I enjoyed every second of this trauma and will continue to enjoy the serious mental illnesses causally linked to this movie.

Jacob Cream really flexed his muscles.

There is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hilarious and refreshing

I thought this movie was AWESOME. The Old Man Movie was unpredictable, strange, and hilarious. The animation itself was super fun and full of life. The comedic timing was classic and self-aware. I love how much the movie leaned into its absurdity, fully committing to the insane twists and turns. There are plenty of quick witty commentaries on different walks of life; festival goers, working class men, young city kids growing up through their phones, etc. If you are an English speaker you MUST watch the original with subtitles, not the dubbed. I hope to see more films like this from this creator and others. Anyways, to whoever made this masterpiece; rock on.
