Writers Need To Do Homework - SPOILERS!
maddevond21 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This review is specifically about the Ensign Davis character, and what happens to her in this episode.

For a show that prides itself on building realistic situations for all its main characters, this episode represents what happens when the writers get lazy, and can't figure out how to build a particular story arc.

The bar scene, where Davis gets assaulted, then arrested is exactly what I am talking about. The police officer in that scene has no cause for arrest whatsoever. Davis was in the middle of rightfully defending herself, when the cop grabbed her by the shoulder without identifying himself first. So of course she turns and punches him to continue her defense. First off, the cop would have clearly seen what was going on, and would have stepped in to help her while identifying himself. Second, there is no way he would have blindly grabbed her by the shoulder; that's a ludicrous situation for anybody.

If the writers wanted to write this scene to build a story arc in order to show the newly minted Ensign Davis getting into trouble, then they should have made it an all out bar brawl, wherein the police show up and arrest everybody. As it is, they have decided to show Davis getting into trouble for no cause at all. Lazy writing at its finest! This situation will need to be fixed in later episodes, or I will start losing faith in what the writers might start doing with other characters. They're riding an extremely fine line with the Jason Hayes character as it is. Thus, it won't take much to turn this great show into some serious thumbs-down territory.

Good luck.

Jason was overdue for therapy
danny-dubs5 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Jason seeing a therapist might not be the high-level action viewers expect but considering everything the writers have done to this guy, it wasn't just inevitable, it was overdue. And even then, he generally refuses to approach therapy in a meaningful, open way - Jason has become an all-around miserable person but giving him space to process his many nightmares is a good start for his character. I hope we see more scenes of him there rather than the usual bar scenes of him drinking away his problems.

However Jason kissing his *other* therapist at the end was both predictable and ridiculous. She more than anyone recently has seen what a negative attitude this guy has toward basically everything and everyone, including her and her job, and she gets firsthand experience with how difficult he is to deal with but sure enough, she's running off with him into a beach sunset. Predictably lazy writing after some surprisingly meaty therapy scenes.

The mission portion of this episode felt generic and forgettable. Mandy is dropped into this mission for no reason other than to give her screen time and then Clay barks at her for no reason.

The Davis sisters diner scene was uncomfortable and her getting arrested at the bar was more lazy writing. There just happens to be a cop at this bar and he throws her in jail for defending herself from some goons? Sure. I'm guessing next episode her sister shows up to bail her out.

This was another episode where the "other" Bravo team guys are invisible, discarded extras. They don't speak at briefings, they don't communicate via the radio, they have no dialogue otherwise.

Jason is cleared for missions 3 weeks after surgery? The internet says recovery for a torn labrum is more like 3-4 months. "Most patients begin returning to sports-specific activities around 3-4 months after surgery; Most patients return to full sports activity around 4-6 months." Jason rode a stationary bike for 2-3 weeks and he's ready for war?

What are they thinking!
bgaulin7 December 2019
By far the WORST episode of all! The scenes with Jason in his therapy sessions talking about his fears and repressed sexual feelings were embarrassing and boring. I'm tired of big he-man Jason and his constant state of depression and crisis. I've loved the show up until recently, but I'm about to get over it.

Terrible episode. Camera work makes you sick. Blurred and moving back and forth. Needs to get better.

I would like to give this episode a zero for the most part
moov_e_c_er20 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Who is this episode targeted at? Straight women from the 50's who always wanted a sensitive man? My god Jason in therapy is so disgustingly boring - no one wants a weak person, some want the sensitive man but no one wants this boring blob in this episode. It feels written from someone's dream where it's half-baked and idealistic and not relevant to the rest of the world. I understand it's trying to find a line below most surface to challenge the man, show men have feelings and fears but c'mon this was just horrible all around. Lazy writing, lazy camerawork, and the mission itself had potential but it was like it wasn't thought out.

Insubordination
ozzyopy24 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I get that the writers have to be dramatic etc but the whole questioning the intel and arguing with authority in the briefings is starting to border on insubordination. I doubt the whole team is in every briefing as well.

Even the arguing and doubting within the bravo team and the constant challenging of bravo 1 doesn't ring true to a navy seal team. They are trained to act and not question every command.

When a car load of targets role up I can't believe they don't shoot them all instantly anymore. They're shooting appears to be getting worse unless it's a sniper shot.

Lastly I feel the writers are lazy in relation to Trent and Brock. Basically no character building for them and bout 1 line each every episode yet they are part of the bravo team. Even the new ring ins like full metal and Vic get more lines.
