On March 18, 1990, 13 works of art were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in the early hours. Some of the painting taken were by the artists : Johannes Vermeer, van Rijn, Rembrandt, Édouard Manet and Edgar Degas. To this day, there is an empty space on the wall the paintings use to be as per Gardner's will that every work of art is to stay exactly where placed.
