This movie tackles the lives of people living in the slums of a typical urban city. It follows the life of Guido (Joel Torre), who rents out casket for a living. Surrounding him are lowlives that would do anything to survive.
I guess what's most interesting here are the actors who went on to make a mark in the future. There is Jaclyn Jose, who played Guido's wife Pining , who got into everything to make a buck. Notable also would be Coco Martin, now a superstar, who played a hustler.
Not really something you should search for.

An entertaining film

I saw this film back in 2008 at the Puchon (Bucheon) International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea. As a fan of the Philippines, I decided to give this movie a shot and really liked it.
The depiction of life in a Philippine slum was quite intriguing and stimulating, though I'm sure conditions are even worse in real life than in the film. I was a sociology major in college and themes of broken families, drug abuse, gambling and other societal ills ring a bell with me.
It's amazing that despite such conditions, Filipinos are such a happy and fun-loving people, but perhaps they have to be to survive.
