Jack McCall, once a big time gangster, is now retired and has become a "gentleman farmer." The thing is he is scheduled to appear before a grand jury investigating mob activities - and McCall has no intention of testifying. Nonetheless, Dan Mathews and the Highway Patrol are given the job of protecting McCall and to make sure he gets to the hearing alive. In spite of more than one attack on him, McCall insists that he won't testify. The discussions between McCall (played by the busy character actor Carlton Young) and Mathews are the best part of the show and are interesting even though the ending is not entirely believable - but it would be nice if it were so.
