A solid start to the show

Pros:

-Luz is very relatable as a protagonist. -Eda being a teacher of sorts works for this style of show. -The Boiling Isles has an incredibly varied landscape and creatures, meaning that there are plenty of stories that can be explored. -The ending, which both implies that Luz can go back at anytime, as well as the necessity that she will have to return and can't stay in the Boiling Isles forever. -Casting is very well-handled, particularly the guest star.

Cons: -Pacing is a bit stuffy at times. -Some underdeveloped characters (Foodfic girl is best character) -An over reliance on Alex Hirsch for humor (I get it, he likes to think he's funny, but sometimes dragging out his jokes can be draining).

Overall, a very good show.

This show so far has all the pieces in place to be great! Stunning visuals, creative comedy, likeable characters, and to top it off the story has already started to get going.

A great start!

A lovely start! It establishes the characters who will accompany us in most episodes and their personalities. It also shows us the great world of the Boiling Islands and its dangers. A great start to a great series!

A great start for the 2020s; Western Animation still going strong

The first episode of The Owl House was interesting. To tell you the truth, I've always anticipated for this show more than Amphibia. It's because it has the Gravity Falls formula and shows with GF formula tend to impress me more than the Adventure Time / Steven Universe formula. I feel like I'm more interested in seeing shows with a mysterious storyline rather than emotional stories. So far, every aspects is great. I like every single characters in the show, especially King. The show's art style and background design are outstanding, and the story is going to be a fun one, just as long as they don't force me to cry. Sorry, I just feel burned out from these kind of shows, but as long as we have like Gravity Falls, Welcome to the Wayne, and the Owl House, then I'm okay with them. All in all, 2020 is off to a great start for animation.

Effective introductions

An effective pilot with a fair number of good jokes, a nice moral, and good character introductions. Nothing really stands out, especially compared to the later parts of the show.

It's good, but not great

Warning: Spoilers
Trust me, the episode that should impress you more is likely the library episode, but this is a good start. The joke with the prison guard wanting to date Eda was unexpected and funny, but other than that, not much notable.
