A good bit of fun
rhys-bebbers15 May 2020
I'm o my halfway through this series. It's fun. There's animals in this that I didn't know existed, different species of wasps etc. Yeah it might not be original, and maybe a little staged, but it's what you'd expect. I would suggest it's probably not for the squeamish though

Very good for what it's about.
dylanjake-473324 February 2020
This show delivers on what it promises and it's so fun and cringey (in a good way). The only thing holding it back a bit for me is some of the banter feels fake. They need to just be more real. It's okay that you're not best friends, that will come with the season. Besides that, I am definitely recommending this show and hope it gets more seasons.

Great Series, also helpful if you are bitten
vsx81910 July 2022
For people saying this is useless, they have no idea what they are talking about. What happens if you live in the areas of these creatures and you get bit, at least you know what to expect and if you need to rush yourself to the hospital. Its like the Scoville scale, people eat these chillies so you know what you are buying.

Also doesn't hurt that its funny watching them get bit.. That Beaded Lizard looked stupid painful, I wont spoil it, but you need to watch it.

Everyone feels pain differently.
lita-ann886 July 2020
Every human being on this planet, feels pain differently. So I don't think you can make a certified pain index, based on 2 people.

Also, I hope they didn't copy this or get the idea for the show from "Coyote" Peterson who already battled this concept on his wildly successful YouTube channel.

Enjoyable show tho...not for the squeamish.

Better than expected!
bsbs1811 May 2021
This is a great show that's easy to watch (unless you're very squeamish) and has a little comedy element to it between their reactions and banter. Recommended. I hope they continue making the show.

Respect what these guys do
svinjadebela10 November 2020
I know that many complain on these guys overreacting or acting poorly, but that shouldn't be the point here. There is no such thing like a serious research on pain with just 2 subjects being tested. This show is for fun - to see different kinds of animals and the way they can hurt people. Of course that dialogues and setting is somewhat staged, it's always the case, but these guys REALLY get bitten, and for our entertainment. Just look at the episode 8 and how the python messed them up. The fact that somebody else did the similar thing doesn't mean much. It's hard to even think of something nobody did, that could be a good material for a show. These guys deserve respect and I really hope we are getting season 2. I would love to see more and mooooooooore new nightmare creatures doing their job.

I was hooked!
iheartteeth15 January 2020
When my husband turned on the show, I thought... What the? Um NO. This is stupid. These guys are stupid. i am not a fan of reality shows because I think there so overly staged. BUT this show got me. I LOVED IT. My husband was shocked. He and I BOTH love it. Yep they can be viewed as stupid but my first judgement was without giving it a chance. They are documenting this information and informing everyone who watches what the pain index is, reactions, severity, where the 'subject' can be located, etc. Yes, there might be YouTube videos of people doing it. Or a book or 2 out there? But I've never seen it but I've seen this. (And their making money while doing it?! ((Hopefully)) So BRAVO!!!! I'll be looking forward to next season! I'm hooked! (And my husband) ;)

Why are they hurting the animals?
akayg-1065027 January 2022
S1E2 both men punch two separate fish. I'm rly confused why they needed to be so aggressive and hurt the fish. In the close up you can clearly see the spines are broken.

Stop hating and look for a moment !
craigdenny29 April 2020
I do not usually write reviews but i had to chime in here, there are haters who are saying that it is fake, no it is not !.

You see a python bite them in slow motion and the after effect, no camera trickery there, caveman has a huge heamotoma that needs draining. You see spines snapping and going into their skin, someone said you see an insects bum pressed against the skin and nothing else but the majority of the time you can see the stinger going in.

There are close up shots when the bug / animal stings or bites so of course you are not seeing their face, you can see the redness on their arm after a sting and the monitor lizard was 100% real.

I dknt know why people are hating so bad but this is a great show for all ages anf shows the real dangers out there.

Thank you for doing what NONE of us reviewers would, fingers crossed for season 2

Potential is lost
paddygrant-9631715 December 2019
Nice show with a great idea but Adam gives the game away that it is very heavily staged, he is a bad actor and that reduces the level of "realism" in the show. No Doubt the animals hurt but did they hurt the stars of the show? Judge for yourself.

Funny and good show
krieg-9043516 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The guys are funny as can be and the information is actually good. The previous review says that they don't show the stingers going in their arms, but they have slow motion and zoomed in filming that shows every sting and bite that they go through.

Very, very fun series.
kleinjeremy20 March 2021
This is a fun series that's educational, silly, insanely tense, and even strangely edifying. Definitely ends on a high note. but yeah, I could never recommend this to my family members. There's something really admirable with the way the main actors approach the subject, though. Progress through suffering, and all that.

As for the show being a copy, that Coyote guy (from what I've heard in Youtube comments) plays everything up way more than the guys here do. But you can be the judge of that!

The scores need help
dtmartin-3147029 April 2020
So I watched the whole show and I feel that the scoring is way way off and need some help.... for instance the scoring for damage they didnt take into consideration the blood pressure and heart rate that the medic took before and after the sting... IMO the damage on some of the stings should have been higher do to the elevated BP and HR cuz if they where not so fit and healthy as they are they could have had DEADLY CONSEQUENCES just with the HR and BP.

What wild boys was in my early 20s, except more insane believe it or not..
furnacefuneral11 December 2019
Very similar in the way that these 2 travel the world interacting with dangerous animals except I actually think KOP is better in a sense that I havent squirmed around in my chair, winced, turned my head to the side to look out of just one eye so much ever in my life while watching a tv show. The only thing that ever came close was wildboys. Wild boys was very slapstick but at the same time actually very educational and informative (like when they swam with whale sharks with shrimp stuffed in their underpants,) and as to the regions and wildlife they interacted with, basically jackass in the jungle. Kings of pain is just pure unadulterated cringe in the best way possible AND it's in the name of science. My new favorite show of 2019. It's the only thing I really look forward to all week besides sunday football.

Shockingly bad
imdb-590515 March 2020
Ok, I've just watched the first episode but I feel like it's 20 minutes of my life wasted.

I say 20 minutes as I've fast forwarded past most of the drivel these 2 go on about. The piranha scene, just how lame is it? I've seen some overacting in my time but these 2 are bad.

I'll give it one more episode before I cancel the series link.

Unfair critiques of this show
joeassmus14 December 2019
Have only watched the premier episode alll THOSE bites are on YouTube already. I am disappointed reading many of the negative comments about these Guys. You think you might have balls... have a pal put a venomous scorpion on yer forearm. They DO have a medical staff on standby the whole time. Plus the physician they have always checking their breathing rate/Bp that physician is a world renown 'venom expert'. If it makes me wince I'm hooked.

Give it a chance
javierdaking13 March 2021
People say their copying but they dont realize how much time goes into this. Firstly going to diffrent countries, looking for the creatures, recovering from some of the bites, and the editing. And this show was probably already being shot before cayote Peterson's cow killer video even came out. People just need to stop with the "their coping what cayote Peterson was doing" and give it a chance

Stolen Idea
angrycager19 June 2020
Nathaniel "Coyote" Peterson Who runs a nature channel on YouTube already did a series about moving up the Schmidt sting pain index all while being educational doing the same things these thieves are doing. Shame on you History channel for hosting a direct rip off.

Let's be idiots... For science!
kennbr23 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so first an foremost, let's talk about the premise: Enduring lots of insect stings and animal bites in order to rate them on an index of which hurts the worst. They reference Justin Schmidt a lot, who apparently wrote a book that does the same, but he only rated the intensity of the pain. They decided to try to expand on this, by rating not only the pain intensity, but the duration and damage.

Here's the big issue... Intensity and damage are both very subjective, and only four episodes in, I've seen them give questionable ratings in both categories. They rated bark scorpions a two on damage because it merely caused swelling, but then in another episode, they rated another insect ( I honestly forget which ) much higher even though it caused basically the same simple swelling reaction. Beyond that, the intensity rating seems very unbelievable too, since their visible reaction for some stings seems much greater, wherein they rate it very low in intensity, and then very high for other stings where in they rate it very high. Finally, the only objective rating, "duration", they seem to mix in other categories... They rate some insects as higher duration because the swelling is still present the next day, when that seems a bit more like conflating duration and damage. Really there's no controlled way that they measure the duration... You'd think to be truly scientific, one would have to graph the intensity of the pain over time, but they are just winging it.

So the whole premise of doing it for "science" is troubled by the fact that their rating method is totally unscientific, but that's okay... Is it at least good television? No, and I'll tell you why.

They begin each "sting" by going out on an obviously faked expedition to find the insect or animal in question. It's so obvious that the two hosts do not actually do any of the tracking or finding of these animals, and sometimes they will film them "collecting" the animals, but in other instances it's obvious that someone else ( probably some unpaid intern ) got to go out and get them. The episode with the harvester ants shows the hosts stumble upon ( literally ) a nest of harvester ants, and then they throw one or two of them into a case before deciding to bug out (pun intended). Yet, when it comes time to test the sting, there are hundreds of the ants in the case that they'd only tossed a couple into.

Meanwhile... It's pretty hard to believe their reactions to some of the stings and there's a whole lot of over-acting. They jump up and down, grunt, moan, yell "Oooof", and act like it's some horrendous pain... Then they sit down and rate it a 3 or a 4 or something. Meanwhile, there's clips in the introduction of one of the hosts being bitten by a Python, receiving major lacerations, and he's literally tapping out and has an expression on his face completely unlike others I've seen. I've not made it to that part of the series yet, but undoubtedly he'll rate the damage of the lacerations as only a 5 wherein the swelling from previous insects' bites they've rated 8.

The whole thing is just fundamentally flawed and poorly executed, and worst yet... It's just a ripoff of Coyote Peterson. Obviously they saw how popular his YouTube videos were, and decided, "This would make a great show, let's put it behind the facade of being scientific testing!"

One thing that also concerns me is what happens to the animals and insects they're testing. The show does not tell us whether these animals are returned to the habitat they're removed from, and from a conservationist and ethical standpoint, it seems very likely that these animals are harmed in one way or another.

The only positive I can give this show is that you will learn about a myriad of different insects and animals, but they only comment very mildly about those animal's behavior and missed the boat by a mile when it comes to the potential for this being an informative production.

tl;dr : You'll like it if you just want to see two grown men act like idiots and intentionally hurt themselves. If you were hoping for any type of scientific or informative merit, you'll be disappointed.
