While Maksim Matveev portrays Holmes in this re-imagined TV mini-series, his wife Elizaveta Boyarskaya portrayed a minor role in Sherlock Holmes (2013), a faithful TV-series adaptation of the original Sherlock Holmes novels. Elizaveta's father, Mikhail Boyarskiy, portrayed Inspector Lestrade in the same series.
It isn't the first attempt of one of the writers this TV-series, Aleksandr Shaburov, to place Sherlock Holmes in Russia. In 2018 he published a short story (feuilleton) "Sherlock Holmes and the Poisoning of Skripal" which tells about Holmes, who was granted Russian citizenship along with Gérard Depardieu and Steven Seagal, living in Russia and assisting Russian authorities to solve high profile cases. The plot of the story represents an official position of Russian Government on Skripal's case with a lot of mocking at victims of that crime.
