Great episode.

Rebua and Siobhan investigate when members of the clergy are murdered in a brutal fashion.

What a great episode, such a good watch, a cracking storyline, gritty, well paced, and superbly acted. I liked the side story of the retired Detective also, that fitted in really well.

Price and Stott are both wonderful throughout, it's nice to see Rebus knuckled down, and focused on the job in hand, it's one of the lighter episodes for the troubled character.

You are made to wait to learn the solution, with the identity of the killer(s) coming as a real surprise.

Siobhan sports a wonderful hairdo in this one, the style that even Margaret Thatcher would have loved.

Some wonderful views of the beautiful City.

A great watch, 9/10.

Some great lines and proof that "God moves in mysterious ways".

Ken Stott and Claire Price shine in a script with humour, darkness and musical references. Retribution delayed 20 years is, nevertheless, retribution.

The script builds nicely to a denouement.

The First Stone

Skulduggery in the Scottish church. A minister due to be elected as Moderator of of the General Assembly of the Church. of Scotland is found dead. He was naked in a car with a woman who is also dead.

The suspect is the woman's husband Tommy Steele, a man with a record.

Matters get complex when other minsters die, a radio DJ gets nervous. An important clue is received from an ex policeman that Rebus visits in an old people's home.

It seems dead woman had a past where her daughter went missing. The dead ministers also had a past that they wish remained buried.

It is a mildly enjoyable story as long as you approach Rebus with low expectations. This was adapted from a short story. You have to wonder what investigations the police did about the dead woman when an ex copper with dementia gives an important clue and not the police computer.
