Good Mix & Musicians Make It An Entertaining Show
ccthemovieman-120 May 2008
This concert looks just beautiful in HD, which is how it's being shown now. It also sounds pretty darn good, too, thanks to the terrific musicians in Tom Petty's band. Mike Campbell on lead guitar and Benmont Tench on keyboards were particularly good, I thought. Petty has never had that good a voice but yet he's interesting to hear and he comes across as a real likable guy. All of the group's members, which also include bassist Ron Blair and guitar-harmonic-harmony vocals Scott Thurston and drummer Steve Ferrone all look like they're having a good time. I suspect they usually do when they're playing.

Everybody has their favorites songs of each artist and group and, at least in this concert, mine was "Melinda," which featured fantastic piano by Tench and an interesting guitar sound from Campbell. You can't go wrong either with rock "oldies" like "Baby, Please Don't Go" and "Born In Chicago," "Red Rooster" and "I Got A Woman." There is a good mix of fast and slow, rock and blues and ballads.....all adding up to an entertaining show.

Outstanding Concert by a Music Legend
catman29-737-5551526 February 2021
This concert is a pure joy to watch and listen to. One reviewer says Tom Petty is not a great singer but seems like a nice fellow. I beg to differ his voice is unique and he sings with his soul so to speak - a bit like Dylan you either get it or you don't. Tom Petty has written some classic songs either on his own or in collaboration with others and is a musical legend. As always his band (The Heartbreakers) are exemplary in this concert. The concert kicks off in style with "Baby Please Don't Go" and the band shows their individual talents with the outstanding "Melinda". Great to hear the classic "Little Red Rooster" sung by Tom with such feeling and blue tone with the band demonstrating their individual talents once again. The audience really got into this number as well. I recommend this concert to all serious rock and blues lovers - Tom Petty left us too early and had lot more music in him - RIP
