Taking Toei
Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Fund (Pif) has increased its stake in Japanese film and TV studio Toei Company, from 5% to 6.03%, according to a report by the Reuters financial news agency. The move comes shortly after Toei published a ten-year plan for international expansion.
Toei includes film and TV production operations, the T-Joy cinema chain and Toei Animation. Last month, it said that it had beaten its film revenue record, thanks to the success of titles including “The First Slam Dunk,” “The Legend of Butterfly” and “One Piece Film Red.”
The stake increase also follows Pif’s February announcement that it had increased its stake in Japanese games and console maker Nintendo to 8.26% and that (along with the Singapore state fund Gic) was a buyer of a $966 million bond issue from Korean entertainment-tech firm Kakao Corp.

World of Warcraft‘s recently revealed Dragonflight expansion promises to offer quite a few new things. It features a new race (the Dracthyr), enhanced dragon-riding controls, a new progression/skill tree system, a new ranged damage spec, expanded profession options, and all the new content you expect from most WoW expansions.
In another time and a different place, Dragonflight would be exactly the kind of expansion that would either keep you addicted to World of Warcraft or lure you into the game’s compelling clutches if you’ve either never played it or haven’t played it in a while. Now, though, Dragonflight feels burdened with the impossible task of saving a game that it was only ever meant to expand.
Truth be told, it...

Lost Ark is breaking player count records, taking Twitch by storm, and leaving just about everyone who is out of the loop wondering how this Mmoarpg became so popular so quickly.
In recent years, we’ve seen games like Fall Guys, Among Us, and Splitgate seemingly come out of nowhere to take the industry by storm. While some of those titles end up staying on our radars for longer than others, each of them proved that it’s still very much possible for slightly smaller and relatively obscure games to make a name for themselves without the obvious benefits of a major franchise name, a huge marketing push, or any of the other niceties many Triple-a studios regularly get to work with.
Like most of those other titles, though, Lost Ark‘s sudden rise isn’t as inexplicable or sudden as it may seem. In fact, there are some pretty...
