Gay porn with Nazis Warning: Spoilers
"My Little Boy" is a German 17-minute short film that plays during the days of National Socialism in Germany and tells us the love story between a photographer and a Nazi soldier. Now I am not really sure what the point of this film really is. Everybody with little history knowledge should know that gays were killed in 1930's and 1940's Germany and we all know that nonetheless homosexuality existed back then, because people were obviously born with it. This is the second work by director and writer Matthias Vom Schemm. Today, he still works in film, but rarely directs. Looks like his focus switched entirely to writing now. The actors in here are pretty prolific today as well, almost all of them, but some of them in other areas such as art direction for example. I personally did not enjoy this short film too much. It started nicely with the guy who came to the photographer's studio and told him that a night club (probably a Jewish one) had been closed. That was when I thought that this film could actually have some nice depth. But the moment he disappears and that gay Nazi guy shows up, it all goes South pretty quickly. No convincing story or character development anymore and near the end it becomes pretty much gay porn. The ending is as showy and controversial as it gets. Somebody needs to tell the director that sometimes quietly convincing is the better way to go. And these historic facts that blend in before the credits are also on the cringeworthy side. These show that this film takes itself far more seriously than it has any right to, as if it was some kind of must-see in terms of the homosexual issues in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s. Weak outcome, all in all. Not recommended.
