An Excellent Ending

An excellent final instalment to Volume 7 with some expected moments and some surprises, and a great set up for Volume 8. I would've liked to see more of team RWBY but considering the heavy focus on them in the last two chapters I understand why there did not feature too heavily. JNR and Oscar vs Neo reminded us all, I think, that the heroes, while they have certainly gotten stronger, are not invincible and helped put some of the power scaling back into perspective because I know some people have had complaints about that recently. The clash between Penny, Winter, and Cinder was definitely very welcome, and it was lovely to get hints at Cinder's motivations for her quest for power being that she wants those who are currently in power to fall (I pray this is developed more in Volume 8). Ironwood completely turning his back on Oz/Oscar was interesting, and while I feel it may have been slightly rushed over the last few chapters it is definitely an interesting turning point for his character. Penny inheriting the Winter Maiden powers was something I saw happening (the moment they set it up as Winter, I knew that it wouldn't be Winter getting them), but as a way to develop Penny's arc this series as being a real girl with real feelings and emotions this is fantastic, as how else could she inherit the powers unless she were a real girl. It was also great seeing Freia (sp) tearing Cinder apart before this (that's now Cinder losing 2/2 maiden battles). Seeing Winter and Penny hold their own against Cinder at least for a time was lovely because we don't often get to see the truly expert and powered up characters clash that much (we only really get one per volume (Qrow vs Winter in V3, Ozpin vs Cinder in V3 (for like 30 seconds), Qrow vs Tyrian in V4, and then not really anything for V5 or V6). To see so many in the last few episodes alone was lovely. An ending juxtaposing the start of the volume is excellent, with our heroes flying away from Atlas instead of towards it, but still with an army looming in the skies that they're going to have to counter in some way. I like that they're definitely keeping the action in Atlas as well, as one of my major complaints with V5 was that we only got one volume to explore Mistral before swiftly moving on. As always, the music is absolutely fantastic, and the fight choreography is getting better every day. A great ending to an overall fantastic volume of RWBY that explores Atlas and its politics and gave us more of the Veil arc idea of the villains scheming in the background instead of being so out in the open like they became after the Fall of Beacon. Also finishing the volume with Salem flying in on what looks like a giant Majestic Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds has me living!

After a messy season. This was a great finale.

I'm sorry to say. Volume 7 was good but not great. This finale proved that she show is still using the potential it's been given. And been doing so since 2013. I'm glad to say that I'm looking forward to Volume 8.

Amazing Volume!

As a whole, Volume 7 was really engaging and definitely amped up as the episodes went on. Seeing Penny again was so refreshing, and the whole fight with the Ace-Ops vs Team RWBY was definitely one of my favourite fights in the show! The overall storyline of this volume felt as though it was connecting to previous threads, such as Ironwood's choice to abandon Mantle and Team RWBY fighting back against that - as Ironwood has been shown earlier on in the show to be the type of man to make "hard decisions". However, this decision adds to the complexity of the situation, and was very interesting to see for the plot. This show continues to build upon itself in a positive way and I thoroughly enjoyed this volume!
