This episode is highly controversial among Transformers fans for its radically altered portrayal of the characters compared to their personalities in Beast Wars: Transformers (1996). Both Rattrap and Megatron, who were originally very untrustworthy characters who favored dirty tricks above all, display a high sense of honor and fair play, and let each other live, which is in direct contradiction from their established traits. All of the Maximals act uncharacteristically hostile towards Rattrap from the get-go, and Blackarachnia, who was originally a backstabbing traitor, even calls out Rattrap for siding with Megatron. Optimus Primal, despite his team having the upper hand, lets Megatron live instead of finishing him off, thereby passing up his best chance to free the planet from Megatron's tyranny.
