Doing her own stunts for the film, Erica Leerhsen was nearly hit by the train used in the dream sequence when she lost her balance and lunged forward. Her scene was shot with her only 12 inches from the side of the train as it passed by at 30 miles per hour. Unshaken, she insisted on shooting the scene again.
One of the productions "Solvay Police Cars" was accidentally left overnight in the Ace Hardware parking lot in Elbridge. The windows were left down with keys in the ignition. State Troopers found the car, thinking a real Solvay Police Officer had been kidnapped. A search was immediately begun, to include helicopters.
Though the production had two police cars, the same one with the bent antenna is the one that most commonly seen, regardless of who was driving it.
The film is inspired by real events that took place in South Texas in the 1980's.
