Robby Benson: Prince Valiant

Quotes

  • Prince Valiant : Well, if these men are truly barbarians as Sir Gawain suggests, then war is the only option. But if they are men, who live and breathe and think as we do, then they can be reasoned with.

  • Prince Valiant : I swear, if you harm her, I'll kill you!

Baron Frederick von Holsing : I doubt you'll live long enough.

  • Prince Valiant : Does it cause you no pain to make your living off the agony of others?

  • Brendan MacGrath : I'll have to put to a vote.

    Prince Valiant : A vote?

Brendan MacGrath : Aye. We all decide together on how things should be. Each of us gets a say, then we go with the majority opinion.

Prince Valiant : What a remarkable idea.

  • Prince Valiant : [after pretending to get into a fight to distract the guards]  He hit me first.

Taskmaster : Oh? He did, did he?

Brendan McGarth : Aye. Just like this!

[punches the taskmaster in the face]

  • Brendan MacGrath : May the fates be with you.

Prince Valiant : Not only the fates, but God and the will of King Arthur is with us.

  • [last lines]

King Arthur : Duncan Draconarius is a man of honor. You were wise to recommend that he be allowed to rule Kengarry.

Prince Valiant : Thank you, Your Majesty. But I must confess that my time in Kengray has made me think that perhaps the traditional way of choosing rulers may be too... arbitrary.

King Arthur : How else would it be done?

Prince Valiant : The McGrath had a method wherein each person had an equal say in making a decision. They called it a vote. It was done by a show of hands. It made me think, Your Majesty. Could this not someday be applied to the selection of a king?

King Arthur : Hmm... A show of hands to choose a ruler. What an extraordinary idea.
