- Addison disagrees with Naomi on the designer baby methods she did for Molly and Eric Madison in order to save their 7 year old son. But when 6-month pregnant Molly decides to bring on her labor as her son's condition deteriorates it is up to Addison to save the baby and reluctantly donate the core blood to the baby's brother. Meanwhile, Cooper and Charlotte continue their behind closed doors affair and it causes him to abandon his usual annual holiday with Violet. Elsewhere, Pete asks Addison out just as Kevin comes back on the scene, Dell quits and Naomi tells Addison that the practice is in trouble which causes Sam to relieve her of administrative duties.—Anonymous
- Open on Naomi in a commercial for the practice.
Then, she and Addison on the phone, disregarding their own commercial's pitch for health.
Violet gives her sales pitch as we cut to Addison, wondering why Kevin the cop hasn't called and Naomi, trying to avoid both Sam and Dell.
Violet suggests over the phone to Cooper that they go to Zanzibar to touch monkeys (that is not a euphemism) using the bonus checks they're about to get. He's distracted because Charlotte is coming out with a towel on.
Sam and Pete discuss their women problems over beer while interspersed with their commercials.
In the office, they watch the commercial. Dell's peeved his one line got cut so he's not even in it. They all demand bonus checks from Sam. Sam tells Addison he thinks Naomi is avoiding her.
Addison talks to Naomi, who manages to avoid Dell as well.
Violet reads Cooper her vacation sales pitch and he tells her he might not be able to go away this year. Charlotte drops by to talk business, which involves making out with Cooper on his desk (the preferred make-out spot of televised lovers everywhere).
Mid-make-out he tells Charlotte he wants to tell Violet about them because he doesn't think he can go on vacation with her. She commands him to either shut up and get back on top of her, or keep talking and watch her walk out the door. Guess which option he chooses.
Over coffee, Pete asks Addison out.
Naomi is doing some medical stuff in a Petri dish when Dell tells her a patient is there to see her. She pawns her off on Addison, who asks input on whether she should go out with Pete.
Walking to see the patient, she passes Kevin the cop, who says he was in training for SWAT. He has a t-shirt to prove it. Addison complains about being blown-off, because guys usually totally dig complaining, but it seems to work. She goes to see the patient, Molly. She's six months pregnant but wants them to induce. The baby's cord blood is the only thing that can save their son, who has leukemia.
Sam confronts Naomi, saying she's avoiding him.
Then Addison confronts her, saying Molly sees the baby as an organ, not a baby. Naomi realizes that the baby needs to be born within the week or their son will die because he's had his immune system stripped for the transfusion. But Addison refuses.
Cooper says a formal good-bye to Charlotte, then fends off more vacation sales pitches from a completely oblivious Violet. He greets his patient, a teenage boy, and gives him the sex talk, which pretty much goes condom, condom, condom, condom.
Addison and Violet tag-team on Naomi for impregnating Molly with false hope.
Pete complains to Sam about Dell going green which has resulted in tissue paper gowns, no paper cups and other life or death issues.
Cooper interrupts to tell them about his 14-year-old contemplating sex. He's Dean Miller and he's HIV positive, but doesn't know it. His parents won't tell him. He thinks he has a kidney condition, Cooper explains. He's stuck between keeping Dean's plans to have sex from his parents and his diagnosis from him. His parents never told him because they didn't think he'd live long enough to need to know. Addison tells Molly she can't deliver the baby. Molly pleads with her, her husband, Eric, essentially calls Addy a killer. At the practice, Addison yells at Naomi for making her the bad guy. Dell tries again to talk to Naomi and she blows him off, again.
Pete and Violet check in on Addison. Then Sam and Cooper show up and it turns into a bitchfest about Dell refusing to restock supplies. Addison gets them to refocus and it turns into them complaining that Naomi didn't consult them about the Madisons. Addison says Naomi's hiding something and goes to confront her. They stare each other down as the group looks on from another room.
Dell interrupts to tell them Cooper Dean's parents are there. And there's a lobby full of patients if anyone else feels like working.
Cooper meets with Dean's parents, trying to warn them their son is about to have sex without breaking Dean's privilege. He tells them Dean can't afford to wait to learn about his status. His parents say he's not old enough to deal with it. Then dad threatens to sue Cooper if he tells Dean. Naomi cracks under Addison's silence: the Madisons paid the practice $80,000 and the practice needed the money. She admits she had reservations. She makes Addison promise not to tell the others she refinanced the mortgage and they're broke. She used the last of their money to make the commercial.
Cooper vents over drinks and when he says let em sue, a touchy Naomi tells him not to risk the practice. Pete asks Addison if she's thought about their date and she asks if they can talk tomorrow. Naomi gives Sam the same line. Cooper and Violet are left. She starts back in on the vacation touching monkeys again and he tells her he can't go. He denies that he's seeing someone. For a shrink, Violet proves lousy at knowing when she's being lied to.
In bed, Cooper asks Charlotte why he can't tell people. Charlotte says she doesn't want to be part of the family. And it's not that serious. He tells her she should go. She mentions she's wearing crotchless panties, which hardly seems fair. Cooper calls her pathologically afraid of human relationships and she and her panties leave.
On their beachfront porches, Sam asks Addison if Naomi said anything to her. Sam thinks Naomi doesn't want to give things a second chance with him. Addison tries to convince him she's just tired, while keeping the financial secret. When they arrive at work together, Naomi sees them and thinks Addison has told them. Their cell phones ring at the same time and Naomi urgently says she'll get Addison surgical privileges. Cooper meets with Dean and his parents, under the guise of an emergency. He starts to reveal something that, he says, he's not legally allowed to. Deans mom freaks out, screaming at him to stop. He says Dean's planning on having sex. Dean is mad at Cooper, but doesn't understand why his parents are flipping out. His dad asks Cooper to give them a minute. At the hospital, Charlotte says Molly's water broke and she's bleeding but she's not dilated. Addison confronts Molly, asking what she did. She's not taking lies for an answer. Molly broke her water herself, with a knitting needle. Addison gives Naomi ''a look what you've done glare.''
In surgery, they take the cord blood and Naomi goes to work on the boy who needs the transfusion while Addison tends to the preemie, who is not doing well.
At the practice, Dean's parents come out and his dad shoves Cooper to the floor. Dean yells at Cooper, who replies that he couldn't tell him, but will tell him everything he needs to know now. Dean says its too late, they had sex last night.
At the hospital, the preemie is near death when Charlotte comes in. Addison tries experimental liquid ventilation on the baby which she's never done before. It works.
The brother gets the transfusion of cord blood. Violet comes to check on everyone and meets up with Charlotte, who waxes philosophical about doctors playing God, saying she wishes she could give up that responsibility. Then she could do anything, go to Africa, touch monkeys. Violet seems to finally get it. Naomi checks on the baby as Addison watches over her, still not thrilled with Naomi. Dell finally pins Naomi down in her office, telling her he's been covering for her with late bill notices and everything. She thought he was going to profess his love again. Instead, he quits.
Addison debates with herself in the hall and then goes into Sam's office. Naomi's running the practice into the ground. She tells him something has to be done and he has to be the one to do it. Pete drops in on Violet, deep in contemplation, mourning the loss of Cooper. Charlotte crawls back to Cooper, saying he can't tell anyone, but she'll consider a vacation. As she lays out more rules, he shuts the door in her face until the subject of her lack of underwear comes up. He lets her in. SWAT guy Kevin drops by Addison's house - he's a cop, he knows where everyone lives - to ask her out and generally be charming. Naomi goes to Sam's, asking if ''they'' can be ''us'' again. She needs one thing in her life to work. He lets her in and they kiss.
Cooper arrives at work in the morning. No Dell. Dean, his folks, his girlfriend Amy and her parents walk in. The have a lot of questions for Cooper.
Addison checks on the preemie. Molly thanks her. She was just trying to protect her family.
Pete checks in with Addison about him asking her out. She can't. As of last night, she's seeing someone. ''Poor choice,'' he tells her.
Addison checks in with Sam to make sure he's ready. They have to protect their family. He gets Naomi and calls people to the conference room. They're expecting bonuses. Violet tells Cooper shes going to Zanzibar alone.
Sam hands out the checks. Except they're not checks. Its $100 a piece. It's from his personal checking account. He tells them the practice is broke. They don't bill enough, they don't see enough patients. Sam says from now on, Naomi is relieved of her administrative duties and he is taking charge of the practice. She can't believe Addison told. She walks out.
The video about family taking care of family replays, meaningfully.
