The interior scenes of the bus were almost entirely shot in an improvised studio (a potato warehouse) with front projection.
The line number of the 'main' bus in the story is 34. As a fan of football club Ajax director Jeroen Mourmans chose this number because his team became the Dutch national champions for the 34th time only a few days before shooting the first scenes involving the bus. The number 34 is exceptionally important for Ajax fans, because it was the number worn by Abdelhak 'Appie' Nouri. Nouri was probably the most promising Dutch football player of his generation, whose career came to a tragic end when he collapsed on the pitch during a friendly game on July 8th 2017 suffering from cardiac arrest, resulting in severe brain damage. He was only 20 years old at the time.
A small recurring motif in the film is the fact that a few specific characters are coughing. Some viewers have speculated that this is a critical reference to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic first found it's way into the Netherlands during Carnival in 2020 in specific southern areas. This wasn't the case however for the South of Limburg, where this story takes place. Moreover, the film was written and produced between 2016 and 2019 and had it's first viewings right before the pandemic.
