- At Cloud Gate in Chicago, young people take selfie photos against the reflective surface of "The Bean". The people admit such photos are selfish and a bit narcissistic but provide proof they exist and are out living their lives. The year from September 2019 to August 2020 is the year cell phones and social media changes the course of American history. In September 2019, young people gather at 5 a.m. at an Apple Store in New York City to be to be among the first purchasers to receive their new iPhone. That day, a climate change protest march is being held nearby, but the iPhone purchasers are largely uninterested. In October 2019, a Trump rally takes place in Minneapolis. The crowd chants "Send her back" which relates to Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar who hates America and criticizes Trump supporters view of patriotism. Later counter protesters from Black Lives Matter and immigrant support groups meet the Trump supporters on the street. Police are called in to keep the peace. In November 2019 on the International Bridge near El Paso, Texas, hundreds of people line up each day to request asylum into the United States. While they wait, many asylum seekers live in plastic tarp tents and are desperate and destitute. In front of a Wal-Mart in El Page where 22 people were killed as a lone gunman tried to turn back the immigrant invasion, stands a memorial to the tragedy. The Wal-Mart reopens and patrons are welcomed back with enthusiasm. Some locals theorize the President s rhetoric sparked the shooter. Then, on Black Friday in California, Americans crowd the stores and shopping centers. A shopper says that Black Friday shopping fills the void in his soul with material goods. The tangible replaces the intangible. An environmentalist decries Black Friday claiming the items will all ultimately end up in a land fill. In Chester, Pennsylvania, where garbage is processed, smokestacks release smoke. Children there have three times the race of hospitalized asthma of other Pennsylvania cities and higher rates of cancer. In December 2019, in an Omaha, Nebraska theater, "A Drag Queen Christmas" is presented. Protesters from local churches are outside the theater singing hymns and declaring the blasphemy of the show. In January 2020, at the President Heads in Williamsburg, Virginia, the giant busts are deteriorating and serve as a metaphor for the country. In Richmond, 2nd Amendment rights advocates gather and openly carry rifles at the Virginia State Capitol. They claim the presence of guns keeps the peace and saves lives. In Las Vegas, there is no memorial at the Mandalay Bay Hotel for the mass shooting that took place there in 2017, but locals still feel a bit of apprehension being on the streets. One drug attic claims that Las Vegas is symbolic of the wealth gap in America. In Lowndes County, Alabama, a poor black woman lives in a home that floods every spring with sewage in the waters. She believes that repairs would be made and that it would not be allowed to happen in a white neighborhood. In February 2020, in Miami, Florida, a crowd gathers for Superbowl LIV. Many selfies are taken. Black men decry that America is unfair and the justice system discriminates between the races. One African American claims the inequality is not the results of human rights deficit but the lack of equal economic rights. In March 2020, protesters gather before the Supreme Court building both in support of and against abortion. In New York City, shoppers hoard groceries for the pending corona lockdown. On March 16, 2020, New York closes all bars and restaurants. There is one last day to party and the bars are crowded until they reluctantly close. The next day, windows are boarded up and there is almost no traffic on some of the busiest streets of New York City. The Corona Virus pandemic takes hold and the death toll grows. Refrigerator trailers serve as temporary morgues. In April. 2020, a reopen Virginia rally rolls threw Richmond, Virginia. A similar rally takes place in Madison, Wisconsin. In May 2020, the New York City funeral homes are bustling with business and the crematoriums are backlogged with corona virus victims which are often minorities. In Sacramento, California, an anti-vaccine protest is held. In San Francisco, the high-end stores and boutiques are boarded up. The streets are empty except for homeless people. George Floyd is killed in Minneapolis and Black Lives Matter is again protesting. A black woman in a viral video gives an eyewitness account of Floyd's death. The Minneapolis protests become violent and fires burn the neighborhood on May 27, 2020.
On June 1, 2020, the racial justice protests continue in Washington D.C. The police disperse unruly crowds with tear gas and rubber bullets. Blacks lament how many acts by police are not caught on camera and live in fear due to an exaggerated sense of danger when they encounter police. Trump holds a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Many rally goers do not wear protective masks or believe the corona virus is much of a threat to their health. They encounter Black Lives Matter protesters on their way into the rally but Trump supports proclaim that all lives matter. They see the Black Lives Matter movement as divisive and brought on by liberals to tear apart America. In July 2020 at a mobile food pantry in Massachusetts, workers prepare and distribute boxes of food. With the onset of the pandemic, a higher percentage of families are food insecure than in the past including middle class families. Cars line up at a Covid-19 testing station. Cases of the virus are spiking, but governors are opening up their businesses again. A driver in line bemoans that he may have to choose between his health and his livelihood. At Mount Rushmore, President Trump holds an Independent Day celebration. Native American protesters still try to claim land mall near where the monument stands and police hold back the unruly mob. A massive fireworks display ensues.
