Fantastic!!
sriramthestranger20 December 2019
This is one of the best example that emphasizes - "The personality and attitude of actors matter more than the look-alike appearance in a biopic film". Director Gautam Menon has pulled off a fantastic biopic that tells the story of a female actress turned politician in a male dominated environment. The uniqueness of the plot lies in portrayal of characters in a grey shade rather than as demi-god, seen usually in biopics. Ramya Krishnan fits the role as a 'T' supported by Anjana and Anikha playing the lead in younger ages. One of the best biopics I have seen after Thackeray. Must watch!!

Must watch

Those who are fond of biopics, its a must watch. Remya Krishnan, Anjana Jayaprakash and Anikha Surendran did their best to make it a wonderful drama. Indrajith excelled as GMR.

Well Made & Engrossing
indianature26 December 2020
I watched Season 1 of Queen in orig. Tamil audio with English subtitles on MX Player.

The disclaimer prominently proclaims this to be fiction and the Director Gautam Menon in a separate interview also asserts that it is not based on any real characters :-))) Obviously one would have to be blind not to see the striking resemblance of Ramya Krishnan to JJ oooops Shakthi, Indrajith to MGR .. er GMR and Vamsi Krishna to Sobhan Babu ... Chaitanya. Whoever did the casting did a fair job. I also recollect watching the Simi Garewal interview of JJ on DD so many years ago. This series plot pivots around the interview of Shakthi the politician by a lead TV interviewer (Lillette Dubey).

But anyway, lets treat this story as out and out fiction as the production team would have it. Episode 1 portrays Shakthi as the perfect student, too goody goody and I was wondering if this series was yet another propaganda like Vivek Oberoi's Namo !!! But it is not, thank goodness as subsequent episodes make very clear.

The episodes certainly hold the interest, the acting by most is pretty good and as mentioned before, the similarity to several real incidents, people and events is for all to see. The sets are realistic and the location shots at the Gandikota canyon area are stunning. Anikha (child JJ) and Anjana JP (young JJ) are very very good. Ramya's resemblance to the former CM is remarkable. There is some lack of continuity. For example Suryakala (Sasikala) comes in all of a sudden out of the blue which can be confusing for viewers not familiar with the politics in reference.

Season 1 signs off as an open ended Ep.11 with the funeral of GMR when Shakthi realises how she is going to shape her political future.

Trust there will be a Season 2 as this is certainly an interesting 'tale' yet to be narrated. Queen is definitely one of the better recent web series.

jat-9322417 December 2019
The best Web series created ever in Tamil till date . Unbelievable, it was close to reality not only the direction and the story but also the art works department and others get credit for this masterpiece. This web series denotes that Kollywood is ready for ON demand content transition.

Must Watch Biography...

Women with struggled past and overruled all the people and become CM. Awesome way of making the History and you are inside the scenes most of the times. The way the dialogue deliveries are made you feel like you have to do something better in life. Salute Team and GVM Ramya Anika Anjana...

Good show

I am awe of all the three artists who have played Jaya Lalita in the show. The story is told very well and paced adequate. Only the political carrier of Jaya Lalitha is not shown in much detail. As a viewer we would want a few more episodes to cover that aspect too.

A HISTORY
typicalfilmmmaker2 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Queen is a fictional series about a real life epic character its a character driven story of shakthi sheshadhri her travel from her school life to chief minister of Tamil nadu it was breathing slowly and touches her all part of her life success, struggles, tears, stubborns, fame, loneliness, decisions, her supporting persons in her life and her enemies. Writing of reshma ghattala was slow and steady, film making of gautham Menon and prasanth murugesan was outstanding kudoos to both of them. Cinematography was a back bone for this series it defines the mood of both past and presents dop,s velraj,Kathir and manikandan all finely done their job very well. Ramya krishnan she shouldered this story through out the end, anikha and anjana done their part nicely all supporting characters are so good at their performance espically character pradhiban,Sonia agarwal etc. Indrajith his performance was another back bone of this series. Vintage costumes, vehicles, props, are helps to convince that time period. Only flaw in this series was dubbing it does,nt sink through out the series other wise a great series to watch for also there is a lot of accuracy from the history. MUST WATCH.

Boring , bad dubbing
pradeep-1838529 December 2019
I am surprised at the high ratings....considering we are having excellent content coming in Web series .today..it's sad with good production values and a great actress like Ramya Krishnan portraying the main role it's a complete let down...bad dubbing pacing and overall direction pathetic. ...you tend to just get bored with the whole series. ...a gripping and intense retelling with better lip sync or dubbing could have made this queen good but it's a dissapointment. ..makers are the reason for its lack lustre presentation. ...should have made more efforts in the making considering the excellent PR the series is getting

Queen, jointly directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and Prasath Murugesan, is a riveting tale of a woman who is met with struggles at every step of the way and how she overcame everything with her fighting spirit. Watch it for its engaging story and brilliant direction.

While on great stretches of acting, I loved Anikha in that phone scene when she deals with the disappointment of knowing college education will never be hers, for no fault of hers.

Though the makers claim that this isn't J Jayalalithaa's story, one cannot help but draw parallels between Queen and Jaya's story.

A boring series in mx
gnshmudaliar4 October 2020
This series is time consuming and completely boring contains 10 episodes with each of approximate 1hr duration. I don't know why such a boring series received lot of positive reviews. There is no conceptual, realistic, creativity or any inspiration you get in this story as others mentioned. However this movie is based on jayalalitha story but I'm sure this series not completely based on her there are some illogical concept which doesn't relevant to her story. I request to you to please provide negative reviews only so that no one should waste their time by watching this disgusting series

A near perfect series. It keeps you wanting to see next episode. What do you want more ?
jaimishra11 July 2020
It's a classic series.

The direction is so good that you can't keep yourself from praising it.

Story makes you hooked on and never lets you get bored.

I watched it in Hindi and the dubbing department deserves a pat on their back. They dubbed the series so professionally that you don't feel that its a dubbed series for once.

The series depicts the life of an actress turned politician which gives the audience life lessons about decision making, being a powerful person, achieving success and dealing with life.

A must watch series.

I must mention that acting by the Anikha Surendran (youngest version) and older Ramya Krishnan (oldest version) never lets you feel that you are watching an actress playing a role. They perform so well that you think you are watching a real life person.

Do watch the series. Worth Watching.

STory relatable? It's hard not to have a smile on your face already, as you can't help but compare this with the sort of authority she will eventually go on to wield.

The creators had the courage to be realistic but lacked the imagination to make it impactful.
wynwar2 March 2021
Don't go by the overall ratings here, 170 of the 200 ratings here are manufactured by some ratings factory... all with a 10/10 rating... all with clearly robot generated usernames and the same title "queen". You can filter all the 10/10 ratings and scroll to see what I'm saying. So effectively there are only about 30 real ratings and they are not that great.

I watched the Tamil-English version of the series which seems to be the original version. All the other versions are at least partially dubbed. If you choose to do so, watch only the Tamil-English version as the dubbing in the other versions is pathetic. I started watching the Tamil version and had to quickly run and search for the original version.

Quite a realistic bit of storytelling. The larger than life characters have been humanised. We have seen these characters only in black and white but this series presents them in reasonably realistic shades of grey. Of course there is some level of dramatisation and idolatry of the protagonist. If nothing else, this series shows why Jayalalitha became what she became. Bad parenting followed by a series of betrayals throughout her life made her insecure and she grew a gigantic ego as a defense mechanism.

The series is quite difficult to watch because of two things. The first and foremost is the excruciatingly slow pace. This should've been a 6 part series and has been stretched to 11 parts. I'm grateful that this is a web series where I have the option to hit the forward button to skip. Without that option, I'd have stopped watching it after the 1st episode. The only thing that made me push on was an eagerness to see a realistic angle to the life of Jayalalitha.

The second aspect that makes it difficult to watch is the drab dialogue delivery. The dialogue scripting and delivery both are quite dull and puts you to sleep. You can keep the dialogues realistic without making them sound like a docudrama extempore. Many of the dialogues are deep and philosophical fitting the tumultuous life of Jayalalitha but a large volume of them seem unnecessary and at times repetitive.

Overall, it's a sad missed opportunity. The creators had the courage to be realistic with the potentially controversial story but lacked the imagination to make it impactful.

The writing of Queen is its strongest point. Reshma Ghatala never resorts to glorifying the lead character and it is why the viewer is able to easily relate, emotionally, to Shakthi's character.
