***Falimy Malayalam Movie Review***

Directed by Nithish Sahadev starring Basil Joseph, Jagadish, Manju Pillai, Sandeep Pradeep & Meenaraj Palluruthy in lead roles.

Movie Analysis.

1) Natural acting from the lead artists. An organic feel was being received from their performances.

2) The movie reflects many distorted families in our society & the director beautifully portrayed the situations.

3) The terrain of Varanasi was delightful.

4) Music of Vishnu Vijay had added flavour to the film watchability.

5) Apart from the fun ride, the movie hits a light on the significance of the family relationships.

Overall a light hearted watchable flick.

Emotionally Hilarious movie
raviankam52521 December 2023
This is one of a kind emotionally Hilarious movie. You feel sorrow to the core and the director immediately makes you laugh. Wonderful screenplay and narration. All the actors did wonderful job. Comic timing from hero and heros father is fabulous. It is an essential story line for current circumstances in real life as well as for the movie lovers to have a good weekend evening to watch a clean family entertainer for whole family. Climax proceedings were equally emotional as they are funny. My family had a good laugh. A must watch movie for everyone and it would be great if every week this kind of movies get released.

Well delivered in spite of limitations

Warning: Spoilers
Falimy represents the typical content that can come only from the Malayalam industry. A movie with a plot that can be summarised in 2 lines but the execution and narration takes you through a complete journey.

Every thing about this movie is simple and plain but when you blend it all together there is nothing simple about the finished product.

While there are flaws especially on the acting front with the exception of Jagadish and Manju Pillai, the movie is so multi faceted that this is never even a factor. The story flows seamlessly and you can feel the animosity at the beginning, hurt during the second quarter, sorrow of the third and the final reconciliation at the end all meshing organically.

The characters are well defined and are flawed with reason and their faults are what connect them to the audience. The grandfather was my favourite character who is someone caught in the middle of this dysfunctional family and is actively trying to get away with little success.

All in all a definite watch if you love a movie for the plot and not so much for the star value.

5 tickets to Varanasi please.
chand-suhas19 December 2023
The dysfunctional family includes the grandfather who wishes to go on a pilgrimage trip to Kashi as his son, daughter in law and two grandsons join in. The family has issues within them and the fiasco that happened at his own marriage has the elder son more disturbed. In search of peace, the family sets out on trip, still distant with each other and how the challenges they face during the trip, brings them back together as a family forms rest of the story.

This one had a good blend of humor and emotional moments though the emotional scenes were truly sad despite immediately following it up with a comedy scene. It had a fair first half with an uneven narrative and it picks up perfectly in the second half as the performances remain spot on. There were couple of stupendous scenes involving the grandfather and it definitely hit hard. There was scope to make the trip shenanigans a bit more wild for the family, but the one with the smuggling driver felt to be enough too. Overall, it was indeed a fun watch.

Made me fall in love with Malayalam movie industry !
shravanworklab9 December 2023
I have never watched Malayalam movie but just to kill some time went and saw the time! It was the best thing ever made in terms of comedy and I hope Indian cinema makes more movies like this where there is pure raw content. I have already told my 20+ friends to watch this movie because it's the best thing I have ever done! It's really rare to get this type of movie in theatre, usually big stars movies are filled with heriosim that you won't even relate to what's happening overall. But this genre of movies are golden and should pave the way for new Indian cinemas!! Wonderful crew and wonderful story writing!!!

A lighthearted family flick that has the repeat-watch quality! [+67%]
arungeorge1318 November 2023
The fun factor in Falimy consistently remains on the higher side, making this a light and enjoyable watch. There isn't much of a plot to speak of; instead, a series of situations lead to a dysfunctional family deciding to take a trip to Varanasi as per the wishes of their elderly patriarch. The five members of the household - (played by) Basil Joseph, Sandeep Pradeep, Jagadish, Manju Pillai, and Meenaraj Palluruthy - are all wonderful performers, and the writing gives them roles they totally shine in.

The way the first half plays out made me think this had all the makings of a sitcom, with pertinent underlying themes. The friendship shared between the two (neighboring) grandpas is not only heartwarming but also pivotal in the plot's progression. I like how the writing naturally came across as humourous as opposed to forcefully putting these characters in such situations (except for one where the family randomly decides to hitchhike in a shady guy's van). The uneasy relationships between each family member are also explored to decent depths.

Vishnu Vijay's song compositions are a mixed bag here, but his work on the score is pretty solid. There are a few editing misses, such as wrong reaction shots being stitched together, and the missing poster for the grandpa character showing different ages (82 in some and 86 in others). But these don't hamper the viewing experience by any means. I can easily add Falimy to the repeat-watch list, as I liked how it balances out the emotional drama with sufficient humor. However, it wouldn't be fair to assume that it's an out-and-out comedy.

A must watch
Revieweraz3 December 2023
Safe to say I have watched almost every single one of Basil's movie and I have not been disappointed. This movie is a roller coaster of emotions and the development the characters go through is beautiful. It's such a classic comedy movie, for families to watch, I found it absolutely amazing. The scenes were unique and well written and the actors portrayed their character really well. The situations they were in were funny but the actors did an excellent job keeping their personalities. Personally, I would be watching this movie over and over again. Also feel like this is one of the hit movies this year. A little bit about the storyline it revolves around a father mother grandfather and 2 sons, all who have a not so good relationship with each other. Throughout the movie, one can see the changes and reasons to why a certain character acts the way they do. Such a beautiful masterpiece and I cannot wait to see more movies like this.

A decent feel-good one-time watch
TreeFiddy5322 December 2023
There's nothing mind-blowing about this story but that's the USP of most Mollywood films, 'How can I take a nothing-great day-to-day plot and still make a good movie out of it?' Essentially, slice of life; just that Mollywood does it better than most other film industries.

Make a good movie out of it, they did. 'Falimy' on purpose, your classic 'Teddha hai, par mera hai' types. The family in this film is dysfunctional and has got its own issues, stuff that most families can relate to, at least in parts.

The film takes you on a certain journey, literally in the movie and figuratively as well, which is a mini roller coaster ride by itself, not too high/low, but it goes up and down enough to catch you off guard.

I think it's safe to say that if Basil Joseph is playing the lead, the film is surely going to be watchable. All of the support cast did a great job as well. I laughed out loud at this shot of a "happy parivar" in the background with this family standing up front after a fight, thought was put into writing. Some parts on the other hand, made me feel like "Bruh, they can't be that be THAT dumb, can they?"

People said "If you liked Jaya Hey, you'd like this." I liked Jaya Hey, but I don't think Falimy is necessarily on the same level. That said, it's still enjoyable and also thought-provoking in parts. You can watch it with your falimy (see what I did there?)

A heart warming comedy
roshan_karizma23 December 2023
Beautiful movie. After a long time I have watched a movie that made me feel good. Such family movies are rare events nowadays, the movie teaches you to treasure your family, your grand parents as long as they're with us. It has some real heart felt moments, and some moments are light hearted.

I just happened to stumble across this gem while browsing through my Disney plus, This movie is made from heart and soul. The story is plain and simple yet has an enchanting charm. I believe Malyaalam movies are better in story telling than Tamil, which is a bigger industry. If you're looking fir movie that you can enjoy with your family, we'll, look no more.

Falimy: A tale of a twisted family!
vysakhasandhye28 January 2024
Basil Joseph never disappoints with his movies, and in this roller-coaster family ride, he emerges again as one of the bankable actors of our cinema.

Falimy can be catalogued as a classic comedy😀and an absolute entertainment for the entire family.

Without any spoilers, the story revolves around dubbing artist Anoop (Anu) played by Basil and his family including his grandpa, who is seen making several failed attempts to board a train to Varnasi. The distorted family finally reconnects to fulfil the grandpa's desires.

You can find this feel-good gem on Disney Hotstar that I'm sure will keep you glued to the screen for a couple of hours, with its spot-on performances of the entire dysfunctional family crew and a seamless blend of humor and emotions.

Apart from Basil, Jagadish's performance as the infuriating father is commendable, you would actually want to slap the man to instill his obliterated responsibilities. Jagadish has been surprising with this performances repeatedly movie after movie.

Malayalam narratives are one of the best ✨in the country and the director Nitish Sahadev has proved in this one that our cinema excels in translating the intrinsic nature of humdrum existence with unfeigned dogma.

Overall, Falimy is a feel-good fun to watch movie that progresses towards a poignant message.👍

A fun filled Falimy entertainment. Worth watching!!
vinita15027329 November 2023
It's the first time I have reviewed a movie in this detail.

I was quite eager to watch the movie after seeing the trailer and it did not disappoint me a bit to wait for the release. The direction and performances of the entire cast is exceptional and there was never a dull moment. Each and every character played a crucial role and Basil Joseph's acting shows that one does not need to be a superstar or overly handsome to achieve success in the industry. Hats to his impeccable skills.

What surprised me was the incredible acting of Jagadish who plays the irritating father's so convincingly that you are tempted to hit him from your seat. I have been watching his movies since my childhood and feel like this the movie where he has actually brought out his acting skills so perfectly. Manju Pillai as a mother excels in showing the behaviour of a typical mother in the real world.

The grandfather's role, especially the scene where he breaks down upon hearing his friend who his also his neighbour's demise makes us think about our old age and depart of our own people who are close to our heart. Not to miss the mention of the boy who played the younger brother's role.

Overall a wonderful movie with an excellent ending!!

Life Slice
nairtejas1 January 2024
Falimy reminded me of all the feel-good, slice-of-life films I have seen since the COVID-19 pandemic. They have a steady mix of comedy, familial emotions, and a basic plot. Falimy has all of them and it uses them to keep you glued to the screen, also thanks to the excellent cast choice and performance. Yet, it felt cinematic in a couple of sequences that were not meant to be but which left an artificial taste in my mouth. That was what made me feel less excited about Falimy as it turned into a road film. I'm a sucker for road films, but the road part in Falimy is pedestrian to say the least, pun intended. If you're not tired of those happy-go films, this is for you.

OVERNYPED AF
MatthewKay0071 December 2023
Nothing compared to JAY JAY JAY HEI.

Only few laughing moments here and there. PR work is soo good tbh. They made it look like the best comedy of 2023 but naaaaa. Only OTT worth. Basil is just doing it for the money. He knows that these kinda movies just provides him with the financial stability. He is an extremely a smart mallu. I had too much hope and I was extremely dissatisfied. Basil is just a good awesome director. Not a good actor. Throughout Reddit his PR is trying to make him the "JANAPRIYA" nadan but cmon?, Basil is a typecasted actor No where close to D10. D10 did his mistakes but acting wise we still gotta give him credit. Overall a 5/10 Move hyped by PR.

Family drama with a pinch of comedy
grarunkumar199411 December 2023
Falimy is a low budget film with a good story line. Malayalam industry has been churning out average family dramas like public tap water. Either it is non existent or it flows. This , like the usual family films from a decade doesn't give anything inspiring nor entertaining. An average event in a regular family has been shown with no extra spices. Jagadeesh, Manju Pillai, Basil Joseph has done good performances as members of a dysfunctional family. Although the film does not have any lag and events keep happening, film doesn't keep you entertained, at all except a few comedy parts that work in bits and pieces thanks to the three leads.

Falimy is just a one time watch. Definitely not a theatre watch. Watch on OTT if you've time to spare.

A Laughter-Packed Delight
appusnikhil17 December 2023
For me, this is one of the best dramas of 2023. An excellent movie with lots of hilarious scenes throughout that I can't even stop laughing at.

I don't have words to describe the acting of the main characters. The movie has an ensemble cast and everyone did justice to their respective roles. Basil Joseph has been quite lucky, and so far, all of his selections have worked really well for him.

The craftmanship of the director was visible throughout and the movie indirectly conveys a strong message to the audience. The scenes shot in Banaras have their own beauty.

Falimy is one of the best movies from Mollywood in 2023. Do give it a watch, it's not going to disappoint you.

blueblood-6436326 January 2024
What a movie. This is what you call a movie. A movie that doesn't disappoint you in anyway. A movie that makes you laugh and teach you deep life lessons. I loved every moment of it. Beautiful presentation of a family comedy drama 👌 the characters are so everyday characters. The best thing is you can watch it with your family and all can laugh and enjoy together. It's a movie that gives you the reason to smile and feel good. Loved the grandfather's character. Everyone in the movie did their best to make it look and feel as natural as they can. It's a movie that you will remember and recomend others. I thank the makers of the movie. I will keep an eye on your next movie for sure. Thank you for this super entertainment.

A cheap imitation of the movie "Home"
Neha_M356 February 2024
This film disappointingly recycles a plot from a recent release, suffering from slow pacing, unlinked events, and numerous irrelevant characters. Its lack of originality, despite a new setting, and shallow, poorly acted characters fail to engage. The narrative is devoid of depth, relying on clichés and exaggerated emotions rather than genuine creativity. Directorial inexperience and overconfidence overshadow any potential vision, with an underestimated audience and poorly chosen cast exacerbating the film's flaws. Overacting and a failure to connect with the audience mar the acting, while the soundtrack and visuals offer nothing noteworthy. The cinematography, while competent, feels misplaced. Editing drags, highlighting weaker performances without respecting viewer time. Action scenes are carelessly executed, and attempts at societal commentary come across as artificial. Overall, the film's reliance on familiar faces and locations can't mask its fundamental shortcomings, offering low rewatchability and entertainment value.

Rolarcoaster of emotions
kawsarnaharmim23 December 2023
It's too good to watch. It's a pleasure to eye, ear and soul. 'Falimy' is love. I love Malayalam movies so far. 'Falimy' is a story of a family consists of five members. They live, they love, their complex relationship between each other all were shown so beautifully. I laughed, I cried. It's a total entertaining movie. Their journey, their story bring smile in my face. Personally I can relate a lot. My grandpa was died on 2021. I love my grandpa so much. His demise still give me pain. I wish he would with us forever. The way they all love their family members in this movie is so beautiful. It's a very common story of very common people in a very uncommon way. In the last family must be united. That's the very lesson. I love 'Falimy'. A kudos to the whole team to make such a wonderful movie.

Outstanding
rajeshr-191028 February 2024
Short of words to describe this movie but let me attempt-

Pros:- 1) A simple story brilliantly told 2) Basil Joseph stamp of quality 3) Extremely powerful performances, led by Jagdish as never before. Among others, the tea seller kid with a 2 minute role was very funny. I rewinded his scenes .. 4) Almost pan Indian so that north Indian viewers can also watch 5) Comedy sequences - the DDLJ inspired train scene was a scream 6) Excellent cinematography

Cons: 1) Takes time to get going..I had initially switched off after the first 10 minutes, but went back to resume just by chance 2) Name confuses Google, for reading reviews I kept getting another movie called Family starring Vinay Fort 3) Would have been fun to have another 5 minutes for closure..eg. The younger brother settling scores, Jagdish and son reconciliation in particular

To summarise, this is good cinema and can be watched with family..

if you enjoyed watching Jaya Jaya Jaya Hai then you will love Falimy
sheldon-salace18 December 2023
After watching Jaya Jaya Jaya Hai, Minnal Murali and also Mukundan Unni Associates whenever i see the name Basil Joseph associated with any project then it has my attention and I make it a point to check it out. Similar to all the above movies which you must watch in case you haven't, Falimy is a movie I recommend for sure.if you enjoyed watching Jaya Jaya Jaya Hai then you will love Falimy.

Good simple family entertainer, background score and songs that complement the scenes and a good cast which is always very important. Never a dull moment in Falimy (name itself will get you saying hey its a typo). A road trip Dramedy that will have you giving the thumbs up when it comes to an end. A recommended watch for sure.

One time
aswathiwarrier24 January 2024
Released in 2023 directed by Nithush Sahadev, this is the story of a dysfunctional family who set out to fulfill the wish of their grandfather who wants to go to Kaashi.. in the process they bond, especially the eldest son and the father who were not on decent speaking terms. The life experiences when the train leaves without them, and the travel in bus and a smugglers van etc in between, and finally how the grandfather goes missing, all kinda one time watch, no comedy moments other than Basil Joseph with his expressions (the one where the smuggler does sudden break when a cow passes and Basil is thrown face first to the window is funny). Predictable that the grandfathers friend would pass away when he's on a trip. Overall one time watch if you have time to kill.

Not as effective as it aspired to be!
SoumikBanerjee19967 January 2024
Conveying the essence of 'mundanity' on-screen, especially with genuine conviction, is no easy task.

This difficulty arises from the fact that a significant portion of our population lives and breathes in a similar lifestyle, bound by routine and filled with monotonous tasks.

Many of us turn to the medium of cinema, hoping to escape from our mundane lives and find solace from our daily routines. However, capturing the attention of the audience with a story that reflects our own lives, the very lives we are trying to escape, is easier said than done.

Only a few movies have managed to achieve this feat, but unfortunately, Nitish Sahadev's directorial debut "Falimy" is not one of them.

Don't get me wrong, the film does have its moments of charm and warmth, but they are few and far between. The problem lies in the lack of a strong bond between the characters, which was supposed to serve as the foundation of the script.

As a consequence, the relatability factor suffers, and the intended emotional impact falls short, leaving much to be desired.
