Tari Lengger (Lengger Dance) was made popular by mainstream media as a symbol to represent Transgender existence in Indonesian history. Although several well-known Lengger Dancers are men, most dances are still performed by women.
The Javanese believe that few Lengger Dancers are gifted with guardian spirits. The spirits enhance their performance and are able to bewitch their audiences. However, to maintain the spirit, the dancers must perform rituals like fasting or flower bathing (a traditional Java ritual)
Detak is Indonesia's first production to implement Zero Waste campaign. No single use food ware, utensils or bottled mineral water were provided. Instead, rattan plates, stainless steel utensils, water bottle to refill and metal cups for coffee were distributed to all crew and casts.
