Romantic C-Drama + Mystery & Suspense
nishera7 May 2021
This show follows the typical, fantasy-based C-Drama plot style, specifically a story where two people's sense of taste get exchanged when they kiss. There wasn't much particularly unique about it, but it was still pretty good as standard C-Cinema goes, embellished with a bit of action, mystery and corporate intrigue to go along with the core storyline. There was also refreshingly little angst (unlike many Asian films, which draw out the emotional torture to the n-th degree). Gong Jun and Song YiRen were their usual excellent selves and the rest of the cast also did a great job. Basically, although the plot wasn't exactly unusual, in terms of execution, this show was above average. I would rate it 8.5 (rounded down to 8) stars.

ROMANCE RATING: * * * 8/10. With a premise where The Guy has to kiss The Girl in order to do his job, I would have expected to average around 1 kiss per 1-2 episodes, but aside from the first few episodes, that isn't how it panned out. There were still 7+ kiss scenes (very plentiful by normal C-Drama standards), but most were brief and utilitarian, with only a few truly invested kisses in the bunch. I was also a bit disappointed by the chemistry between Gong Jun and SYR. I can't put my finger on it, but something about it just felt a little off to me (though that could also be because of how their characters were written).

All in all, if you go for the "romance hybrid" genre (romance + other categories), don't mind an unrealistic premise, and value quantity over quality when it comes to kiss scenes, you will probably enjoy this show.

Good Enough

" Flavour it's yours " actually made that crazy plot work.

At first, the plot idea seemed ridiculous, but the personalities of the two main leads made it work. The mystery was good too, though the taste switching twist got messy and almost out of control. The romance was sweet, though and the leads had chemistry. The pace of the romance, however, was all over the place and almost ruined it. Thankfully, the couple had plenty of cute moments to cover up for it. The second lead's story was pretty interesting and he had a nice love story to boot. The performances were good too, but the leading lady looked way too young.

So, overall, six out of ten.

Warning: Spoilers
I've actually enjoyed this show more than I expected. The main couple is crazy cute and i loved all of their kisses which start early on in the show (first episode) and they do not disappoint till the end. Very enjoyable show. I would recommend it.

Needed Better Casting
PalmBeachG8 February 2023
This C-Drama is called "Instead of Tipsy, Why Not Get Drunk" on Viki. Honestly, I always finish something I start but for the first time in a long time I struggled with that because of the female lead. She was just so annoying and just obviously not a match for either of the male leads I just don't know why she was picked in the first place. It is really hard to watch because of this choice of cast. I kept it on strictly for Gong Jun who has done a great job and fits the role perfectly. If it weren't for him I think I would have considered not finishing it for the first time. I even found the villain and rival to Gong Jun (Senior Brother) enjoyable to watch - what was casting thinking of matching the FL as a romance in the past, present or future with either of them? I will say that I enjoyed the education on wine and refreshed knowledge on wine tasting and it may even be a good idea to watch while taking notes if you have any interest in learning about wine because it is full of useful information. Finished and The ML tried to keep his cool character which he did very well considering the script. The ending was disappointing - the only satisfying part was the Senior Bro. That was worth watching.

Plots and characters weren't well blended together

It's cute with complex characters. And i never thought id be into the wine tasting aspect of the show, but found it perfectly incorporated and fascinating.

But i did find the whole murder/stalker intrigue to be way too suddenly incorporated. It gave me whiplash. And personally, as sweet at the Female lead is, i found her 'believe the first person you talk to' tendency to be absolutely unfitting for the events she was going through. Plus, i personally found the romantic chemistry to be slightly lacking (not to the point of not being able to enjoy it however).
