- The contestants do a Broadway shoot and, later are photographed in an unusual setting.
- The recap of last week sets the tone with eight remaining women - Dominique doesn't have many fans. In interview, she explains why Whitney feels threatened by her while in Whitney's interview she discusses how she's going to win. It's one of many issues they don't agree on.
Claire talks again about feeling guilty for leaving her toddler.
Tyra mail breaks up the introspection as the girls gather to read the scrolling words on the ticker: "If you don't make it here, you won't make it anywhere, Love, Tyra" (and then they "woo-ed," becaues that's what you do after you read Tyra Mail.) Dominique guessed they be going to Broadway, which she found great because: "My mom says I'm a natural born actress."
The next morning starts with Fatima angry because someone poured out the coffee she had just made. She and Lauren evaluate each others' character flaws using colorful language.
They head to Elite Modeling where an exec and a model talk about the right way to audition for a job, called going on a "go-see." They are told they'll be going on go-sees in two teams with navigational help from Sprint phones and, because models are usually broke, they'll have to walk. Claire navigates for her team which includes Whitney, Dominique and Stacy-Ann. Team #2 consists of Lauren, Anya, Katarzyna and Fatima. Despite the fact Lauren knows New York, Anya navigates with the phone - although her technique does not include looking at the actual phone.
On Team #1 Dominique resolves to "be the bigger person" and not let Whitney bother her.
Team 2 meets with designer Shoshanna Gruss (recognizable to you, the home viewer, as Jerry Seinfeld's ex). Lauren tries on a yellow bikini and Shoshanna can tell she's uncomfortable.
Team 1 goes to Pamella Roland. Stacy-Ann does well, Claire gets compliments on her walk, and Dominique high-fives herself on her back in front of the designer. Whitney is told very politely that she's too fat for the runway.
Anya enjoys the way her teams works together to input information into a phone. For those scoring at home, that four models, one phone.
The teams swap go-sees.
At Shoshanna's, Whitney is excited to hear that Shoshanna designs for all body types.
At Pamella Roland, Fatima is very politely called too skinny.
Back at Elite before the final go-see, the teams are told they're close in scores. They head to the third, at Alice + Olivia, together.
The designer encourages them to have fun and be quirky. Domnique goes first and is described as "not having a true model look." Stacy-Ann and Fatima draw raves, as does Katarzyna. Lauren is described as "very tall" with a "funny" walk. Ann Shoket, the editor of Seventeen stops by with the verdict: Team 1 is told they walk well and had terrific personalities, but were "lacking in personal presentation." Team 2 is called beautiful but were lacking in personality and their runway needed a lot of work. Stacy-Ann is the overall winner with the most bookings.
They head to the Seventeen studio for a summer photo shoot.
Back at the loft, more squeals announce Tyra Mail: "Put your best face forward but be careful not to get washed out."
In the confessional, Lauren wallows in insecurity.
They go to the shoot where Jay Manuel is walking on a giant treadmill, then running, they breaking through a wall they later learn is supposed to be a metaphor.
They look up to see a performance art pieces where people flop around on a giant clear tarp in water. They'll be doing it without hair or make-up products. They put on fancy evening gowns and prepare to ruin them while looking like flopping fish.
They're told they photographer is trying to capture movement and shapes.
Claire flops first and hits her head on the plastic. She decides to sit out.
Dominique goes next and says "she wouldn't be so stupid to slam her face like that." Jay tells her she "rocked his world."
Claire goes next is told to move more. Jay describes her as "stilted."
Lauren blows bubbles through her nose and loses her contacts, ending up looking awkward in front of the camera.
Anya is reminded to point her toes.
Katarzyna gets that haircut Tyra demanded last week and, after wiping the tears away, becomes "a graceful goddess" in the shoot.
Whitney worries if the plastic will hold her. "You have no idea what you look like. I mean, how often do you practice laying in puddles on the ground," she says later. Jay tells her she was "incredible."
Stacy-Ann struggles.
Fatima is called "gorgeous."
The shoot wraps.
Back at the loft, more Tyra Mail: "Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. Only 7 will continue on in the hope of becoming America's Next Top Model."
Dominique revels in how well she rose to the challenge, while Lauren feels oppositely.
At Judges Table, Tyra reveals that shoot came from the fact that she attended the off-Broadway play it was based on, successfully slipping the fact she attends theater into a reality show.
Nigel tells Claire her face doesn't show up in the picture. Stacy-Ann gets breathing lessons from Tyra.
Tyra practices pronouncing Katarzyna's name while Paulina tells her, as the result of her haircut, "that weird Eastern European tackiness is now gone." Miss J calls her Neutrogena, because foreign names are hard. Then they get to her shot, which they like.
Whitney is compared to a fetus, which turns out to be a good thing.
Dominique scares Tyra with sheer stockings, but gets compliments on the photo.
Nigel tells Lauren that she almost looks dead in the photo. And Tyra says it's her weakest shot.
Fatima is called "probably the best shot of the bunch" by Nigel.
Anya also did well, which Tyra describes as: "H-2-Oh, no you didn't girl." Ah, clever wordplay.
The judges discuss. Tyra chooses to evaluate some in a vague Count Chocula accent, and then a some Eliza Doolittle. Maybe she saw those at the theater, too.
Nigel thinks Lauren has "collapsed" and Paulina finds her "slightly less Frankenstein-y."
Tyra presents the decision.
Fatima is first. Then Anya, Katarzyna, Whitney, Stacy-Ann, Dominique.
That leaves Claire and Lauren. "Claire, the judges think that you take gorgeous pictures, but they feel like it's one note," Tyra says. "Lauren, you're standing in front of me because the judges see the same note in this room...one of them said Frankenstein-like, and that's really severe." (That should totally help with her confidence issues.)
Tyra reveals Lauren will be staying, meaning Claire goes. She tells Lauren: "A woman cannot take such beautiful pictures and be so awkward."
Claire gets some parting advice about trying different looks.
As she's leaving she says: "I'm really sad and I'm really bummed that essentially, I failed. It was a great experience and I learned a lot...It's like crazy for me to go home, being that I think that I could have been the best competitor...I feel guilty for losing at this point since I left my baby and husband and dog. I guess it's just my time."
