Nothing happened until the last 10 minutes. It was just a draggy journey through France with boring conversations. I expected far more from a midseason episode.

A discovery of boredom

Truly disappointing!

Warning: Spoilers
Bring back season 1 writers and directors! I can't even get through each episode! Season 1 was wonderful In every way! This season is poorly written. The lighting is so dark you can't even make out faces or set design. The music is misplaced. I can't imagine that Deborah Harkness approved the adaptation this season. The story totally misses Matthew's emotional struggle at seeing Phillipe again. Diana is too angry this season. In the books, Diana was awestruck by 1590 Sept Tours and Phillipe. She was excited to be given the household keys to learn all she could as a historian in an ancient household. Kit and Louisa were not interesting in the books so why give them a larger story line in the series? If new writers and directors are not used for season 3, I won't watch. I'm not sure I can get through season 2. Sad because I watched season 1 3 times it was so well written and directed.
So much time wasted on the journey to Sept-Tour

I am disappointed the writers and producer of this episode invested so much of their limited episode airtime on the unremarkable journey across France to Sept-Tour. The episode did not "start" for me until they arrived at Sept-Tour and the few scenes there felt rushed and disconnected. I cannot imagine how only one more episode set at Sept-Tour can adequately cover all that happens between Diana, Matthew and Phillipe that reverberates throughout the rest of their story.
Such a drag

I loved the first season. I am dragging through the second. Each episode worse than previous. I already don't like the timeline compared to book as there was a reason how emotions, reactions and actions meant when in France compared to presented here.
Philippe talking about you are still sinning that is just stupid as he never cared about Christianity.
If they don't improve writing I may just have to stop watching. Sets are miserable along with design and clothes.

Why does Diana need to be Abusive?

Warning: Spoilers
She slaps and shoves Matthew across the room in S2E5 and I couldn't be more appalled. What if Matthew had done this to her? We'd call him abusive. This is a double standard. Abuse is abuse. It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene that didn't even need to be in the show. It added nothing to the story except for a lead heroine to perpetuate abusing a significant other. I really enjoyed the show before this, and now I'm turned off. I'm not sure if I want to continue. I don't understand how this got passed the whole cast and crew without someone questioning whether it was abusive or not. It does show how she grows more patient in later episodes, but beyond that there's no need for it. Even if Matthew doesn't mind... It's still abuse. Very disappointed in Diana's behavior.
