Miriam Margolyes: Self - Host
Quotes
-
Self - Host : I don't have the effrontery to compare myself with Dickens, but we do share one thing: a longing for the journey.
-
Self - Host : [visiting Niagara Falls] I love the power of it. I love the enormous unrelenting blazing power of it. And I love the fact that it's somehow bleak and slippery where we're standing. They haven't been able to pretty this up. It's raw and I feel very very small.
-
Self - Host : I wonder whether I've really got anywhere near to Mr. Dickens on this retracing of his footsteps. There are moments when I think I've shared the same emotions that he had, particularly for example at Niagara falls, because that is an extraordinary place. But I always like to go back to the book. American Notes is where he put it all down, and I don't have those gifts. I can just plod along like when you follow a giant in the snow and you put your tiny little footprints in his big footprints. That's all I've been able to do.
-
Self - Host : I'm full of Montreal. Of all of the places, this is the one.
