With the success of Marvel’s The Avengers still ringing in our ears it was inevitable that every conceivable franchise would be considered for a big-screen outing sooner or later, and this week it’s the turn of T’Challa, aka The Black Panther.
Black Panther has long been rumoured for his own movie ever since Wesley Snipes aligned himself with the title way back in 1992. By 1997 Stan Lee was on board, Columbia were producing and Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiottin were hired to write. Less than a year later the film was officially ‘on hold’ and the name dropped for over a decade until the superhero buzz caught fire again.
In 2010′s Iron Man 2, Nick Fury shows Tony Stark a map of meta-human activity, with one detected in Africa. The film’s director John Favreau has indicated that this was always meant to suggest the existence of T...

CollegeHumor has made the transition from the internet’s online video hit factory with a batting average that makes Ichiro Suzuki look like Casey at the Bat, to the internet’s online video hit factory with a success rate approaching 1.000 and a stellar lineup of fantastic web series. The company launched its Fall programming slate last October, which signaled a slight change in direction from its normal college-coed and twentysomething-oriented viral video fodder. CollegeHumor co-founder and CEO Ricky Van Veen told Mike Shields at MediaWeek his production team was “trying to shift from one-off viral videos to a full slate of shows.” That strategy saw the launch of programs like Full Benefits, Hello My Name Is, Very Mary-Kate, and the celebrity-studded Star of the Week. You should give all those titles a watch. They’re as entertaining as they are popular, and they’re very popular. Their productions also forced CollegeHumor to dive into,...

A new image has been released of Raw Leiba in Sean-Michael Argo’s fantasy actioner, Ember Days. The hulking actor, who had previously been linked to the “Conan the Barbarian” remake due out later this year, stars as fallen angel Azazel. Also starring are Christopher Jason Bolton, Debbie Rochon, Fiona Horne and director Sean-Michael Argo himself.
The image, which can be seen below, features Leiba (whose previous credits include “The Wire” and “Street Fighter: The Later Years“) striking a decidedly macho pose and sporting what looks like a kick-ass weapon. Check out the image below, after the official synopsis:
The fallen angel Azazel has come to Earth, and formed an alliance with the Greek god Hermes. Together they seek to resurrect Azazel’s demigod children, the Nephilim, whose existence threatens to destroy the world.
Another fallen angel, Shemihazya, has arrived to struggle against the raising of the Nephilim. He allies with the Greek goddess Hecate,...

The last installment of College Humor's Street Fighter: The Later Years hit the web in February 2008. Since then, the Iac-owned destination for college coeds and veritable online video hit factory has been a bit bearish on episodic programming. Yes, the site is home to a handful of web series (including the buddy comedy Jake and Amir, the workplace comedy Hardly Working, and the video game talk show Bleep Bloop), but it's been far more focused on producing viral hits (which it's very, very good at). Until now. In a recent conversation with Mike Shields at MediaWeek, College Humor co-founder and CEO, Ricky Van Veen explained how he's now more bullish on the idea of web series. Veen told Shields his College Humor team is "trying to shift from one-off viral videos to a full slate of shows," and he's using the online video star power of his in-house cast...

As a rule, actors shouldn’t fear playing unlikable characters, as Nick Raio has discovered. “Taught to Hate” is a short film based in part on real stories of racially motivated crimes against immigrants in Suffolk County, N.Y. In it, Raio plays a man who shares his racism with his nephew.“A lot of my stuff has been either comedy, a gangster, or a cop,” he says. “It was a great role for me, and I like the fact that I was doing something different and that there was a message attached to this film.”The casting notice, which ran in the Aug. 6 issue of Back Stage, called for a Caucasian male, 45–55, and Raio fit the description. At the audition, he read from sides and impressed director James Garcia-Sotomayer, who says he knew Raio was right to play Uncle Ethan “even though there were a lot of other great actors.
