Sex & Nudity

  • A man has an extramarital affair, and all of the scenes of sensuality are part of that affair.
  • Several scenes of sensuous kissing.
  • One substantial sex scene, which takes place mostly in shadow but is still visible and moaning noises are heard. In this and the subsequent scene we see both the man's and the woman's exposed buttocks, and the woman's breasts.
  • A woman is sleeping nude on a bed, and her breasts and pubic hair can be clearly seen.
  • A clothed woman lifts up her skirt and exposes her naked lower half.
  • In a hospital, many women are naked. Breasts and buttocks are shown, in addition to occasional full frontal nudity.
  • What appears to be a period film clip shows numerous women breast feeding children.

Violence & Gore

  • In one scene where a man and a woman are kissing, he pulls away, and she finds that her hand is covered in blood from where she was embracing him.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The events and characters of the film surround Mussolini's rise to and fall from power in Italy. In the beginning, socialist rebels are shown several times calling for war; in the second half, we see several scenes of Mussolini speaking about Italy's military prowess and the greatness of fascism.
  • Several scenes take place in mental hospitals of the period. Patients in the hospital act bizarrely, but they are not portrayed as dangerous or frightening aside from being generally unpredictable.
