The negative was destroyed by Bob Smith, Howdy Doody's creator, because he felt the 1950s graphic design was not close enough to the look of his wooden puppet. One 35mm print survived in the U.S. Library of Congress, where it was rediscovered in 2010, 58 years after it was produced, and can now be seen.
