Absolutely beautiful.
cgflisek3 November 2022
I saw this at the Hell's Half Mile film festival in Bay City, Michigan and was absolutely mesmerized by it. It's one of those movies you need to see several times to fully understand it (i really doubt that I did) but it's such a wonderful visual experience that it aches to be seen on a big screen. It feels loose and improvised, though I doubt that it was, and the cast is just so damn cool. I mean, Neko Case and John Doe?! Come on!!! Stylistically, it's all over the place, which could hurt but really serves the film and the entire experience. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie where every moment was a surprise and every image a work of art.

Terrible
ethansilvernail1 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life. The plot was overly convoluted in an attempt to seem deep, while in reality nothing of importance happened the entire movie. At the end, they just ride away and say "welp, nothing mattered the whole time." Aesthetically, probably the ugliest movie I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through. Terrible artificial intelligence rotoscoping in an attempt to make up for a shoestring budget (and if I'm wrong about the rotoscoping being done by computers (which I'm not) then the filmmakers are even more stupid because it looks just as bad). Performances were mostly okay actually (hence the four stars), Lily Gladstone and John Way do as good a job as they could considering the horrendous script. I would recommend watching it only if you get tickets for free and are supposed to be standing outside of the venue the entire time anyways (which was the case for me).

Yeehaw

I did not expect to like this movie and i was more than pleasantly surprised& impressed. I had the opportunity to see this at AFF23 and you never know with indie films (especially westerns set in the past, present, and future) Not to get too religious, but I lowercase-b believe we live in a matrix & this movie shook hands with my already held ideas about life & the universe+ time and space. I can't wait to watch this again when it is available to screen at home for hidden treasures. Please also make more of this content for me to consume & absorb. I will buy mercy, share with my friends and family and anyone who will listen. I will make memes for Reddit. I will make tiktok videos with the characters. It will make everyone involved a lot of money.

The fact that is movie exists feels like a miracle - as an audience member it's like striking gold!

QUANTUM COWBOYS is a very challenging film yet so much fun to watch, talk about with your friends afterwards, speculate and theorize about. This movie takes such huge and ambitious swings intellectually and visually there is no way you can't applaud it. Director/writer Geoff Marslett is a true mad scientist of a filmmaker with a wild imagination.

The cast and performances are captivating. It's so easy to fall in love with the trio of Lily Gladstone, Kiowa Gordon and John Way. David Arquette and Frank Mosley as Colfax and DePew really daw you in and help bring even more scope and layers to the story. The rest of the supporting cast bring so much life, fun and intrigue. I cant believe French New Wave icon, ANNA KARINA is this movie!!!

I want all the sequels/spinoffs to QUANTUM COWBOYS so definitely tell your friends about this and check it out!

Wild Ride
williamgway15 November 2023
Super blend of animation that is fascinating to watch. Interesting and engaging from start to finish. Great and wacky cast. Strap in for this wild ride. Lily Gladstone anchors the cast along with some very strong supporting performances. Love the connection between the multiverses and the styles of animation. Who could imagine a cast that includes Kiowa Gordon, David Arquette, John Doe and Alex Cox. Add in Gary Farmer and Neko Case and John Way and you have as many acting styles as animation styles. The original music by Neko Case and Howe Gelb is great. This film really pushes into creative story telling and was super enjoyed it.

Animated Cowboys Walk Through Time.
owenmccarty6 December 2022
I was lucky enough to catch a screening of this film last night, and it is wonderous.

The film uses a mix of animation along with live action to create a surreal world that is always shifting and changing. This does take some getting used to, but by the end of the movie it works seamlessly. The story as well is incredibly confusing, but once you adapt the mentality of "I'm just gonna run with it," it manages to provoke deeper discussion that I love to see from films.

The animation in particular is something that I have never seen, and I doubt I will see again. The way it combines so many styles into one more or less coherent story is marvelous and incredibly impressive.

Now, is it a perfect movie? No, certainly not. Like all movies it has its flaws, but you can tell this is someone's (Geoff Marslett's, in this case) untethered vison of a film. Because of this it becomes something that is truly incredible to watch. I can't wait to watch this again.

A blast, time very well spent watching! lowkey masterpiece!
zachonator6 December 2022
Last night I got the opportunity to view this in muenzinger at CU. It was very well produced and it had great story telling! The soundtrack obviously was worked on a good amount of time and it matched the scenes very well! This was the cast and crews baby for the time spent producing and it grew up as a beautiful film piece! This was very well directed and it was very enjoyable for me and hopefully for many others who get to see it in the future! At the end of the viewing, Geoff talked about his experience creating this bad-boy and is an extremely passionate film creator and was very personally inspiring to me! I could have gotten down more complicated description of the animation, but I want to leave those reading my review, it was really great! There was a quantum physics aspect that made it deeper and led me to think a lot about what it was saying! *I'm still in a deep ponder in the state of wonder.

Tricksters on a cosmic ride
jaraneh13 October 2022
Quantum Cowboys is a brilliant, mind and genre bending act of cinematic wizardry! Keeping the audience gleefully teetering on a time warping, paradoxical roller coaster ride through the old west. Beautifully acted and masterfully directed, and oh so clever in its scripting and storytelling.

Musical genius, Howe Gelb not only created the musical score and perfectly crafted songs, but appears as the legendary Blacky Ranchette. This character and his music are expertly woven throughout the film. My favorite thread within this film is the understated First Nations wisdom and commentary, that respectfully builds upon the ever growing cultural awareness and honoring of the Original people of North America. This film is a truly original romp through western quantum trickster medicine.

The re-enchantment of the world.
hatchart2319 November 2023
As an artist myself, a painter specifically, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie as a moving, literally and figuratively speaking, flowering of rich, unique, and varied animated imagery. I will include "Cosmic Cowboys" in my own personal curatorial list of works I find particularly insightful, entertaining, and strangely relevant in a world hellbent on violence and destruction. Regarding relevance or the question of why this movie is of our present time, the movie offers Hope, at least, a hint that we are not totally powerless and without agency, that we have the ability to peer beyond an authoritarian materialism, and that our mere observation, our particular focus, can indeed affect future events.

RUN THE VIEWS UP ON THIS MOVIE!!
tnj-0368519 November 2023
Quantum Cowboys was a masterpiece, I couldn't take my eyes off all the different animation styles. Warped my vision but also tickled my brain in just the right spots. All for the trippy western vibes. Kept me intrigued, guessing & giggling till the end. Their journey and sweet friendship was fun to see; the perfect trio. Reminds me of all the challenges I've gone through in life, there is so many different perspectives to have on every little thing.

All the characters really pulled me in, the entire crew really MADE THIS FILM. To see Lily's comedic side show was also very refreshing. I've been recommending this to all my friends. I really hope we get to see more from this peyote fever-dream<3.

I need to see more!!
rickyork14 January 2024
I loved the animation but the story really made its beauty.

I'll be giving this film many more views. Mostly to get a better understanding and catch some things I may have missed. There was a Q&A with the director after the viewing at The last picture house in downtown Davenport Iowa. He mentioned possible sequels and I would love to see the story expanded upon.

I'm no quantum physicist but I do love quantum theory. The idea of multiple worlds is something that's been a thought in my head since I can remember. It's true if you believe it to be. Maybe that coincidence is just the opposite!!!!

Worth watching more than once
jjoun3 December 2023
"Quantum Cowboys" is one of those films where it's pleasurable just to let it wash over you. Great inventive visuals with the multiple types of animation and vivid location and sets. Lively narrative that keeps moving. Well-cast and skilled actors. And, the music!

However, there's a lot that's worth unpacking and I couldn't do it in one viewing so I am eager to see it again in the coming week at a theatrical screening. And, I might catch it again on a streaming service. So glad that it's accessible now; I can tell my people that they can catch something unique, entertaining, and utterly engrossing.
