Just About Ok, Said Nothing About Anything!

The Israeli Boys 6 shorts

This movie explored some very first principle themes.

1 Monogamy

Well we were straight into it, a gay couple where one of the partners struggles with monogamy when there are so many chocolates in the chocolate shop. To ensure an emotional distance is maintained so as not to threaten the partnership firm ground rules need to be agreed. This couple agreed nothing so we all knew it was going to end in tears. Not to mention how small Tel Aviv is!

2 Is being Gay a lifestyle choice

The three young men had all the questions but brought cultural baggage that proved a barrier to any understanding. I am sure this would change as life experiences would bring less black and white conclusions.

3 The mechanics of sex

In Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward one of the characters having libido problems say "it's like playing billiards with a rope!" And thus it was so here. Issue resolved, was it worth, totally! This story then moved onto some sort of power play when it was only a casual encounter, when the answer was greater preparation and communication.

4 Spirally down into prostitution

This young man just wanted everything but it all comes at a cost.

5 Things are no what they seem

The gay daughter at her father's funeral discovers he had a secret life, why she feels her closure requires an understanding of her father's life is perplexing as clearly she should had done this whilst he was alive.

6 Teach doesn't leave the hair dye on long enough

This history teacher had led his life according to society's conventions and like a pressure cooker can't be contained any more.

Overall it was well done, very like a movie students university project. All I can take from it is Israel is a challenging place to live and better to live elsewhere.

I giving this a hard 5/10
