It's Friday, it's 6 o'clock, it's Crackerjack!

Once upon a time Crackerjack was the longest running show on British television. Every kid would have their era of the show depending when they first watched it.

For me it was during the stewardship of Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart. The sketches featured Peter Glaze and Don Maclean. It was never the same after they went.

Crackerjack survived till 1984 when it was deemed to be old hat.

Now it's back. Inflation means that the Crackerjack pencil has increased in size. Sam and Mark are the new hosts.

To add some nostalgia past presenters and regulars take part. This includes Bernie Clifton, Stu Francis, Jan Hunt, Don Maclean and Basil Brush. Ironically this was the day Basil Brush led the online tributes after the death of Mr Derek Fowlds.

The time has changed from 5 o'clock. It is now shunted on the BBC children's channel. It has the same mixture of silly sketches, quizzes and gunge.

My son watched a bit of it but unfortunately he is a little too old for this kind of shows these days. I hope it does find a new audience although I doubt it will run for another 30 odd years.
