Violence & Gore

  • A man discovers a school bus buried in a field. It is later revealed to contain the cocooned corpses of nearly thirty victims of a serial killer.
  • The commander of the Kingstown PD SWAT team is a former Special Forces operative who likely suffers from PTSD. He is shown to be a merciless killer, executing nearly every suspect his team encounters. He even shoots through a hostage to kill the hostage taker and calmly leaves while the injured woman is crying for help.
  • In the first season finale, inmates overtake a prison. They viciously attack guards, take their weapons, and tie them up. A riot ensues in which dozens of inmates and guards are killed. A main character is brutally and publicly executed by an inmate gang leader. Later, SWAT officers and soldiers from the National Guard retake the prison. Inmates involved in the riot are mowed down by the dozens with machine gun fire. Well over 100 people are killed in this sequence.
  • People are attacked and killed in prison, often in brutal ways. Examples include: a man burned to death in his cell, several shankings, a man is clubbed to death with a pillowcase full of rocks, a man is beaten savagely and has his groin stomped. After the attack, his bloodied crotch are shown up close while he has convulsions.
  • During a police raid on a suspect's house, a detective is shot through a wall. His body flies across the hall and he is later shown in a pool of blood with his head blown apart. Quite graphic.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A woman forced into prostitution is beaten by her pimp. Her hand is broken with a hammer and she is punched multiple times. Later, she is sold by the Russian Mafia to neo-Nazis. She is injected with heroin and subjected to (what is implied to be) horrific sexual abuse by men and women. She is then sold again to the Bloods who are killed in a drive-by shooting in which she is finally rescued.
  • One episode focuses on the search for a meth cook who accidentally caused an explosion that claimed the life of his stepson. The police and prison guards all openly conspire to catch the suspect and have him killed in prison. The suspect eventually turns himself in. In prison, he is subjected to many forms of degradation and humiliation before being brutally killed by the prison gangs on orders from the cops/guards. His fear, panic, and regret are all very hard to watch.
