Cinema"Most fairytales don't feature two girls. Also, the two girls look totally different from each other," says 10-year-old Pranaya. Sowmya Rajendran"Elsa, the past is not what it seems." Thus begins the trailer of Frozen 2, the sequel to Disney's hugely successful 2013 animated film Frozen directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. The line is typical of stories in the fantasy genre where the protagonist learns something new about their past in subsequent installments. However, it's also a befitting comment on fairytales about princesses that seldom allow their "good" female protagonists any agency. The ones who are powerful are immediately characterised as wicked and are defeated or killed. Frozen was hailed as an important feminist film when it released, though some were not really convinced about Disney's intentions. The film was inspired by Hans Christian Anderson's fairytale, The Snow Queen. While the titular Snow Queen in the story is the chief villain,...

It was a remarkable day in director Nikhil Advani’s life as he received the National Award for his stereoscopic 3D animation film Delhi Safari. Released on the 19th of October 2012, the film won the award of the Best Animation Film.
Delhi Safari takes its viewers to an interesting journey with cross-cultural characters. The film highlights the real world themes about urban sprawl and the effects of humanity on the global ecosystem. The animation in the film certainly defined the new age technology. Director Nikhil Advani and the team of animators at Krayon Pictures have put time, energy, passion and 3D technology into ensuring that their family entertainer is of a standard thus far not seen in the nation. It is also one of the few animation films that did well in the overseas market. Apart from the new-age animation, Nikhil has also made sure that the story of the film is heartfelt.

D-Day is turning out to be a much bigger film than what must have been envisaged before it went on floors. If the pre-release hype was anyways gaining good momentum during last few weeks, the recently announced National Awards have given the film an altogether different dimension. At last count, the spy thriller cum action drama would boast of, hold your breath, as many as five National Award winners associated with it. "These are Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Irrfan Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Nikhil Advani", states an observer. While Arjun Rampal had won a National Award for Best Supporting Actor (Rock On), Rishi Kapoor had brought home one with his very first screen outing, Mera Naam Joker. Incidentally that was for being the Best Child Artist. On the other hand, Shankar Mahadevan is a multiple National Award winner though his latest one for the song 'Bolo Na' (Chittagong) has brought...

Directed and written by Bollywood director Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho, Salaam-e-Ishq), Delhi Safari is his first foray into an animated adventure feature. The original Hindi film version was voiced by some of the greats of Bollywood, including Boman Irani, Govinda, Akshaye Khanna and Urmilla Matondkar. When I heard about that project I was very intrigued, and when I saw the trailers and heard the fab songs by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy and I couldn’t wait to see and hear more about Delhi Safari. I was also excited when I heard that in an unique move, Advani and the producers also made a version with an American cast that includes some of the greats of Hollywood, which included Jason Alexander, Brad Garrett, Vanessa Williams, Jane Lynch, Christopher Lloyd and Cary Elwes – a nice coup. I admit, I love love stories, and from the first time that I saw the trailer of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, I thought that this was going to be a cute romantic comedy. However, this not your average filmi romance because instead of young love, this film tells the story of finding your soul mate even when you think it might be to late in life. Shirin and Farhad are two over-forty middle aged Parsi people leading their lives amidst a fast dwindling Parsi community. Self content and enveloped in their daily worldly affairs, they have not had the time to pause and think about love. That is, until they meet each other. What follows is an unconventional love story – quirky and sweet, having its own essence of romance, and teaching the world that love has no expiry date. The film marks the acting debut of choreographer and director Farah Khan,...

Mumbai, Aug 10: Actor Boman Irani reveals that dubbing for animation film "Delhi Safari" required a lot of exaggeration and he found it easy as as he is brilliant at "overacting".
"We had to act out everything that you see on screen and exaggerate it for animation. Whether it is our expressions or our body movement, or whether it is our physicality or punching each other or falling and tumbling, we did everything. And overacting is something I can do very easily. So it wasn't.
