After her 1950 record-breaking swim of the English Channel over the "easy route" from France to England, England's Florence Chadwick, "Queen of the English Channel," began her diligent training to swim the channel over the harder opposite-direction route from England to the Continent. She swan constantly in Miami, Florida in the winter months, prior to her attempt, and also practiced daily, after moving her training camp, at a Catskill resort in New York. Her attempt at the reverse direction, was successful and made her the first woman to swim the channel in both directions.
