- Superman pays a visit to Morgan Edge; Lois and Chrissy work together on a story; Jonathan finds a welcome distraction during a stressful school day.
- The Kents and Cushings deal with the fallout from Morgan's use of Smallville. Clark suggests that someone should have weapons capable of stopping him, but Lois disagrees. Meanwhile, Morgan considers his past and what his father Zeta told him.—Gislef
- Morgan sits in his kryptonite irradiated cell, and remembers his childhood when his father Zeta tells him that he's no savior and Morgan still falters. When Morgan says that he will become who he was destined to be, Zeta tells Morgan to swear he will never shame the house of Rho again.
Superman comes and asks Morgan where Leslie and the Eradicator are. Morgan says that he knows nothing about what is going on outside of his cell, and his concern is for the Kryptonians. He says that he was wrong about Superman, and Superman shows him the Sunstone from Morgan's Fortress. Morgan is undeterred, and Superman says that he'll find Leslie and bring her there, and then he and Morgan will never each other again.
Later at the farm, Clark tells his family that Sam is going stick around in Smallville with the DoD a little longer. The DoD is shutting down the mines and getting all of the X-Kryptonite out of it Principal Balcomb is having an all-school rally later to explain what she can, and Lois tells Jordan and Jonathan what the cover story is about what supposedly happened.
As the two teenagers go off to school, Lois gets a text message from Chrissy asking when she's going to come into the paper. Lois leaves, after telling Clark that their guest is probably hungry.
At the Cushing house, Mayor Dean meets with Lana and Kyle, and suggests that Kyle take a leave from the fire department until everything blows over. Dean thinks it will only take a couple of weeks, and Kyle tells him that he just wants to get back to work. Lana suggests to her husband that Dean might be right, and Dean insists that he's going to make sure people blame Morgan instead of Kyle for what happened.
At the school, Sarah meets with Jordan and Jonathan, as everyone goes to the assembly. Sarah tells the brothers that can't deal with it and leaves, and Jordan follows her. Some of Jonathan's teammates approach him, realize that Sam is his grandfather, and ask what really happened. Ms. Sharp tells them to get to the assembly.
Jonathan hangs behind, and Tegan approaches Jonathan and suggests that they duck out.
At the Gazette, Chrissy tells Lois that they need to run a big story on what Morgan did. Lois says that Sam won't give a statement, and Chrissy wishes they had verification from the DoD. Lois agrees to reach out to her father.
John is out in the barn with his RV, and Clark brings him some food. Clark notices that John has made a tracker to track Kryptonians like Leslie, and tells Clark that he's going to move on once he finds Leslie. Both Clark and John's AI detect Leslie heading for the DoD, and Clark speeds off to intercept her. John goes to put on his suit.
Superman and John intercept Leslie in a forest, and Sam checks in with Superman and reports that the DoD building hasn't been fully evacuated. Superman intercepts her before they she can slam into the building, and they crash to earth. Leslie beats Superman, and John arrives and blasts her off of Superman, stunning her.
The two men bring Leslie in and check in with Sam, who says that it's over and all they have to do is clean up. Sam says that he was wrong to think Superman was a threat to the world, and they'll destroy all of the anti-Kryptonian weapons except what they need to contain Morgan and Leslie. He assures Superman that he and his family don't have to worry any more.
Jonathan and Tegan drive away in Tegan's car, and she flirts with Jonathan. Tegan mentions Eliza, and Jonathan says that the two of them broke up. Jonathan asks Tegan if she has a boyfriend, and she says that she doesn't. She then suggests that she knows somewhere they could go, and Jonathan agrees.
Sarah and Jordan go out in the woods, with Sarah in the lead. She says that she's waiting for her father to go over the edge, and leads Jordan to a bridge over a stream.
Lang and Kyle go to the diner, Lana tells her husband that the bank replaced her and she can't get her old job back. Several firefights come in, and Kent goes over to greet them. They make it clear they blame Kyle in part for what Morgan did, and Kyle insists he wouldn't do anything to hurt anyone. Lana leads Kyle away.
At the DoD, Sam tells Lois that the DoD isn't releasing an official statement or giving a comment. He says that they're going to release a pamphlet, with a cover story, that will scare people away from the mines. When Lois says that it's unfair and the people she's lying to are her neighbors, Sam asks if he should tell the people the truth. Lois agrees that it's not a good idea, and Sam insists that any quote from him will give the story the legitimacy for it to spread out of Smallville.
Morgan sits in his cell and remembers the past. Zeta tells Morgan that he's ready, and he should study the humans and exploit their weaknesses, and profit from them, before the Eradicator arrives. Morgan asks if he can meet with mother and gain her counsel, and Zeta tells that Lara will never join forces with him. He only brought her crystal so she could see her triumph. Zeta tells Morgan to leave, and the hologram disappears.
In the present, Superman asks Morgan where the Eradicator is. Morgan says that it's of no use to Superman, and Superman tells him that they have Leslie. He insists that he's loyal to the people of Earth that accepted him, and Morgan tells his half-brother that he could be a god but instead he's slave. Morgan says that he knows Superman holds himself back to avoid hurting humans, and asks if it feels good to lose control just once. Superman tells him goodbye and leaves, and Morgan yells after him saying that Superman is just like him.
Lois returns to the Gazette and tells Chrissy that Sam isn't giving a comment. Chrissy wonders what Sam is hiding, and realizes that Lois is protecting the DoD. she tells Lois to leave if she can't tell her the truth, and Lois walks out.
Tegan and Jonathan park in a field, and Tegan tells Jonathan that his family is cool. She knows about Sam and says people are saying that Morgan was experimenting on his employee. Tegan asks Jonathan what he knows about the DoD, and Jonathan changes the subject by asking Tegan why she brought him there. He points out that she wasn't interested in him a week ago, and figures that she wants information from him. Jonathan says that he's going to walk home, and Tegan says that everyone wants to know what happened. He says that obviously she wants to be the one to tell them and walks off.
When they return home, Kyle complains to Lana that his own crew don't trust him. Lana tells her husband not to take it personally, and says that she barely believes it and the townspeople would. She agrees with Kyle that it suck, and asks Kyle to help her find a job. Lana suggests they check the surrounding options, and Kyle says that maybe they should move. His wife insists that it will blow over, but Kyle isn't convinced.
Sarah and Jordan stand on the bridge, and she says that she used to come there with her grandmother, who would tell her stories about their family. Jordan says that he never felt like he belonged anywhere, until he met Sarah. He tells Sarah that it only takes one person to make him safe, and tells Sarah that she has him and he's never going away. The two of them kiss, and the local sheriff comes along and says that's enough.
Superman meets with Sam in the latter's office, and they go over the anti-Kryptonian weapons the DoD developed. When Superman says that they need 7734 because they need a fail-safe in the future.
John is working in the barn, painting a fly symbol on his armor, and his AI says that Natalie would be proud. The AI asks what John is going to do next, and says that he should form interpersonal relationships. Jonathan comes in to see who is talking, and admires the armor. John asks if Jonathan is a gear head, and Jonathan say that he doesn't know. John tells him that he can be more than one thing. Clark comes in and asks why Jonathan isn't in school.
Sam calls Lois and says that he's worried about Clark.
Lana finds Kyle sitting on the back porch, disappointed about his lack of success find a job. She goes to the kitchen where Sophie is doing her homework, and Sophie says that Kyle asked her if she wanted to try another school. Kya calls and tells Lana that Sarah has been arrested.
Clark talks to Jonathan in the kitchen about skipping school, and Jonathan says that Tegan wanted to talk about what happened but he didn't say anything. Lois storms in and Clark tells her that Jonathan skipped school. She orders their son up to his room, then asks Clark if he told Sam to keep 7734. She asks why, and Clark says that it's the right thing to do. Clark wonders if he was tricked or corrupted, and figures the people need a way to defend themselves against him. Lois warns that if the weapons exist, the wrong people will get their hands on them.
Before Clark can answer, the sheriff calls to say that Jordan has been arrested. As Clark and Lois head to the sheriff's station, Lois says that she lied to Chrissy and violated her oath to journalism. Lois insists that it's a bad idea to have thee weapon out, and says that she has to stay angry to face Jordan, and Clark should stay there while she bails their son out of jail. With that, Lois drives off.
The sheriff lets Jordan and Sarah off with a warning. As Lana accompanies them out, she overhears Dean talking to a deputy, saying that they're the victims and the Cushings got special perks from Lana's job with Morgan. Lana goes over and says that they were lied to, just like Dean lied to them. She figures that he's covering his ass, and he's doing what's best for him at the expense of her family.
Lois is there and overhears the entire thing, and asks Lana if she's okay as Lana walks off. Lana says that she's mostly angry, and that the entire town has turned on her family. She wishes she had a backup plan because she has no connection anywhere else and she and her family are alone. Lana says that Smallville isn't the town she loved and leaves.
Lois takes Jordan home, sends him to his room, and finds Clark in the kitchen. She tells Clark that he's wrong, and Clark says that they have to have a plan. When Lois says that Clark has proven he can't be corrupted, Clark tell her that he's been controlling his powers for almost 40 years. When Zod took him over from him, Clark felt for the first time what it was like to let go and it felt good. Clark worries that he might be manipulated into letting go, and the world needs a way to stop him.
His wife says that they she doesn't believe Clark will be corrupted again, but they should have a fail-safe... and not in the hands of the DoD. Clark goes to John and says that John should have the fail-safe. John says that he's trying to move on, and Clark believes John can find his place in the world and be 7734's gatekeeper. After a moment, John says that he'll call Sam.
Lois goes back to the Gazette and admits to Chrissy that she lied. Chrissy insists that they have a responsibility to the town, and Lois agrees. She says that she's can't be objective and write the story, and gives Chrissy the information she's gathered.
Morgan remembers how he confronted Zeta when he learned that Superman is his brother. Zeta dismisses Superman as nothing, and tells Morgan that he's going to ruin the resurrection. Morgan removes the Sunstone generating the hologram, shuts down Zeta, and walks out of the Fortress
In his cell, Morgan realizes that Zeta's way was the only way, and his eyes glow with power.
That night, Clark and Lois talk to their sons. Clark says that they don't disrespect their teachers, and says that they can be normal teenagers when things settle down. Lois tells Jordan and Jonathan to go to bed, and Lois tells Clark that she's sold on her "small town guy" as they kiss.
Sam gets word that the power in Morgan's cell is fluctuating. He sends in a team to check it out, and Morgan releases a blast of energy, knocking the soldiers back. Morgan than floats out of the cell and blasts through the wall.
Superman arrives at the DoD and Sam tells him that Morgan has broken out. Superman flies above the Earth and tries to find Morgan using his super-hearing. He flies back to Sam and tells him that Morgan has gone.
Morgan is hovering before the Sun, drawing on more solar energy and remembering Zeta tell him that he must become the Eradicator, or know that he was the sole reason Krypton was lost.
